2022 creel survey for the red river

It has been a long winter with an even longer spring ahead I am afraid. I got some big things in the hopper for 2023. Hopefully Mother Nature cooperates to make it all happen.

2022 creel survey for the red river

I still have many questions here. I am waiting on the final version breaking down fish per hour and such to tell the real story. My quick catfish guide math says that the catch rate was much higher than previous years. I am questioning one of the methods and have a couple emails sent to see if...

    Recommendations for fly-in fishing trip?

I have not been to any of those in the article but I have been to Lawrence Bay Lodge on Reindeer Lake (one of their outposts actually) two times and have had a ball both times. My goal is to get my boy up there with us sometime in the next few years.

    Guide Question

I will give you my answer from my perspective and in no way speak for other guides. I would love to do just what you ask but there are some issues that quickly come up. 1. My guide insurance does not extend to your boat so from a liability aspect I can't 2. I don't know your boat, where...

    Scheels High end coolers

I have had Big Frigs since they came out. I use them every day in some way. I have a 10qt that I use for a lunch pail, a 20qt that I use for bait and a 45 for trips and such. The company is based in South Dakota and the owner is a great guy.

    I Repack My Bearings....

I have everything repacked every two years and I replace the bearings every four years on my guide boat. I get 2500-5000 miles on the trailer each year and when you figure loading and unloading my trailer is in the Red 250 times per year. This last time the guy working on it asked me how I...

    World’s Oldest Fish

Very interesting. I am hoping this spurs more study on the Red River catfish. The University of Nebraska study has shown that the catfish is not growing near as fast as one might think leading us to believe the big cats are much older than once thought.

New fishing licenses due- change of luck perhaps??

You might be onto something there. It is almost like I forgot how to ice fish this year. I had a rough go other than one spectacular day at Lake of the Woods and one good afternoon pike fishing with tip ups. Other than that I just couldn't seem to get it together. Summer fishing last year was...

    Open water is coming!

I need to learn to us i-pilot on my walleye boat. I'm sure it will be fine. In my cat boat I need to learn high water techniques again. Been quite a few years since we have had really high water in the Red.

    G3 Angler Boats

While I do not run that boat I have been running G3 for my guide boats since 2009 and I have been to the factory twice. I think they are great boats for the money, they stand behind their products and YES that Yamaha is awesome. I will try to answer any other questions you have.

SB 2183- Ease Sucker Importing Restrictions

While the bill failed it appears to have done its job which was to point out the supply issues we have with suckers. Nobody seemed to want to discuss the issue until this bill and a trip to Bismarck to force into the public eye. Now that the ball is rolling behind the scenes maybe we can get...
