Which wild game meat tastes the best?

Had a neighbor years ago who would invite me over at least once a year for a wild game feast. His wife and daughter could cook just about anything and make it taste good and over the years he gave them some tough challenges so I've had quite a few different things at his table. They were proof...

    Milk

It took a while to get over that habit after we quit milking and moved to town where we bought store milk that was homogenized. Still remember squirting milk in my mouth right from the spigot when we were milking by hand. Always had a few cats sitting across the gutter waiting for us to shoot...

    Best country style sausage

Couple years ago at a family gathering a friend made two batches of country sausage and told us to pick the one we liked best. One was Wishek sausage and the other was Napoleon sausage. Turned out about half couldn't tell the difference and the other half split right down the middle for each...

    Whatcha listening too

It's Roku guys, not Ruko in case you want to google it. I've had one for 2 or 3 years and don't use it cause it doesn't have much of interest and all the good stuff requires a subscription. I have Dish Network Flex Pack with the News pack for an additional $10. Have a roof antenna for the 17...

    Hunting dogs surprise

My dog Whitney was a give-away out the the Bismarck Trib and when I went to get her I thought she was a Rottweiler by her color pattern so I almost didn't take her. Owner said she was an oops from his neighbors lab male and golden retriever female so I took her. She was 11 months old and had...

    Plucked mallard recipe?

Try adding an equal amount of soy sauce and a chunk of brown sugar to the Italian dressing for overnight marinading then grill. I use that mix to make wings and drummies for the poker night and there is literally a fight at the pot when I show up. Don't know how long you would need to cook the...

    Anyone seeing any roosters?

I think there has been a bumper crop of raccoons this year. I see 2 or 3 road kills every time out and have seen 3 family's dead on the highway, two of a mama and 2 babies and one of a mama and 3 babies. I think they are really tough on nesting pheasants.

    Perfect antelope weather??

Had herds of them standing beside the road the last couple of months. Three weeks ago I was driving down a section line and two nice bucks were running back and forth in front of me. The bigger one was chasing the smaller one and wouldn't quit. They ran right past me in the road ditch about...

    Anyone seeing any roosters?

I realize you are being sarcastic and you are probably accurate about most people but my job takes me WAAAAAY off the roads and back into lots of remote areas with excellent grouse country and I've seen so few grouse you would think they are going extinct. Was in some rough country in Sioux Co...

    Anyone seeing any roosters?

This is the worst year I've seen since before CRP started. Maybe I've just been in the wrong place at the wrong time but I've covered several thousand miles in an area from I94 to the SD border and the Missouri to Hwy 22 south of Dickinson and can't believe how few birds I've seen. I've seen...

    sharptail opener

Just got back from a long road trip south of Dickinson all around New England and over to Regent. Didn't see one Sharpie and only ran into one covey of pheasants the size of partridges. They were way back in a pasture a ways away from any crop land which I thought was unusual. Lots of...

    sharptail opener

Put on a couple thousand miles in the last month in rough country in Dunn Co. and Grant Co. So far saw 5 sharpies, 3 singles and one pair. Pretty depressing. Have seen only one small covey of pheasants, a couple of lone hens and about half a dozen older roosters. Also very depressing...

    high bush cranberries

Out doing land inspections in the badlands Friday and there were trees full of beautiful ripe chokecherries and buffalo berries. I thought the chokecherry season was long over with. Is this the normal time for ripe chokecherries?

    Boat took a crap

I'll stop in at Boatworks today to see what he says. Considering a couple of different options too. Found a 140 hp Evinrude V4 on Bisman for $1500 and an older 1984 Crestliner with a recently rebuilt Evinrude 140 V4 for $2000. I could junk out the old Crestliner and use the motor if it isn't...

    Boat took a crap

My old boat gave up the ghost out on Sak the other day. Moritz says it's a scored piston and they don't work on old Evinrudes any more. Does anyone know someone who will work on old motors? It's a 1987 90 hp. My boat is a 1991 Lund Tyee II 1650 so if I have to look for another motor what...

    Directionally challenged

I've gotten turned around a few times when doing land inspections in the badlands especially when it's overcast and I can't see the sun like yesterday. I was in some rough stuff yesterday north of Dunn Center and got totally twisted around when the trail I was on petered out. I had a handheld...

    Yellowstone

Have watched several episodes and get a kick out of some of their screw-ups. First episode showed a couple of guys pulling a calf out of a heifer and when they got the calf out it was a month old 150 pounder that jumped up and nearly ran over the actor as it burned out of there. ;:;rofl One...

    Terminal Tackle Storage

I go to the thrift stores and pick up used make-up and jewelery boxes and zippered tote bags for a dollar or two. You can find some handy stuff for next to nothing. Jewelery boxes have lots of compartments and work great for different kinds of cranks and spoons/spinners. Zippered computer...
