    Spring Break-plan B

I was hoping to spend a week around Keystone earlier this winter, but that last cold blast changed any plans of that. I have a buddy that lives down in New Mexico that told me about Navajo Dam. I have fished that area years before for trout. The San Juan river is the tailwater to Navajo, but I...

    Got Perch?

I have anything from a 7 to a 12wt, all rigged with floating, int, and full-sink lines. As for leaders, I will use 7x7 or Vision Wire, but I am going to be playing with straight flouro this year. Sent I was planning a spring break trip that way, but this cold snap got me nervous. I will be...

    Got Perch?

I have only gotten a few on a fly, but they can be fun. I really would like to get into targeting crappie on a fly as well. I want to start filling the freezer with meat since my elk hunt was ;:;banghead Any tips on catching these consistently with a fly? I have been using micro-jigs under a...

    Anyone Tie Flies?

How thick and what knot are you using to tie on your fly? I have found that anything over 40#, a loop knot doesn't stick all that well.

    Anyone Tie Flies?

They are big, but there is no real weight to them.....I could add some weight to make them more fishable with a spinning rod. I have been playing with leaders and clips to see what I like. Currently I run 60# of floro to a swivel, 40# floro to a 18" of AFW 7x7 or Vision Wireline. The wireline...

    Anyone Tie Flies?

I have a bucket for tools and trash in the boat....I have been hanging my flies on that, or just stick them in the dash to dry out. I did order one of these-I think I will like it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q1DL4HB/?tag=nodakangler10-20 I saw this fly/lure box called Just Encase...

    Anyone Tie Flies?

I really like those Decivers and Bunny leeches. How bad are those leeches to toss? I have heard that they get heavy due to the bunny soaking up a lot of water. I tie mostly with bucktail and flash, but have found some synthetics like SF fiber that really are nice to work with and shed water like...

    Anyone Tie Flies?

Thanks for all the kind words-it really is too much fun. I think that is how it all got started...... I get a lot of stuff from that shop out of Rapid; they are a bunch of good guys. As for the small flies, less is more-you can always add materials, but it is very hard to remove them. You...

    Anyone Tie Flies?

Tis the season to sit down at the vice and work on new flies. Tweak the ones that didn't work, tie more of the ones that did, and add some new product to the boxes. I just got my hands on the new swimbait hook from Ahrex....the PR378. I am looking forward to tossing this through some weed...

    Tires "AGAIN"

I haven't heard anyone say anything about Goodyear Wranglers. I have had BFG's and Wranglers, and the Goodyears are so much gooder.

    Does anyone here target carp?

Anything that will ride hook-point up and has some marabou. It's all about what bait is in the lake. I have had luck on leeches, crawdads, damsel patterns, and even stuff that looks like crap. The biggest thing is letting them see they fly without spooking them or the rest of their friends...

    Does anyone here target carp?

That's nice. I have just used Veevus 150 tying thread, but I will have to give that a shot. I have lost the loop on a few fly lines; sinking, not floating, but I can see that braided line be very beneficial for carp fishing. I need to get one of those splicing needle tools, but everything looks...

    Does anyone here target carp?

Loop to loop connections work, so do blood knots. If the line doesnt' have a welded loop already on the line, create your own with some 40 lb test. New leaders come with the loop, but if they don't, hit a perfection loop to create that loop to loop connection.
