    Deer harvest

No rut activity out in 4B last weekend. The only good news there is if you find one buck, you usually find a bunch. I found 8 bedded within 30 yards of each other.

Crazy Hunter Harassment Duck Hunting In North Dakota (Game Warden Involved!)

Surely you jest, but... when we were kids, my brother got busted by Tribal game and fish for trespassing. The thing is, he wasn't trespassing. He was set up on a stock dam on private land where he had permission. The stock dam opened onto a bigger slough, with the property line being about 20...

    - As far as I know, Dillon only makes progressive presses. That's not what I would start on. A reasonably priced but solid single stage like a Forster Co-ax would not leave you wanting. Hell, I use the Hornady lock and load press, which doesn't get much love from reloading snobs, but it turns...

    Fleet Farm

I was in there in August and could not find a fly swatter. Store worker confirmed there were none. Menards had a hundred of them in 2 different styles and 4 different colors. I don't know if it's still this way, but years ago, I was looking for a specific fishing lure. They were out. I...

    Fleet Farm

Fleet Farm pisses me off. It could be great, but their supply chain management is utter dog shit. Every single time I'm in there, I'm looking for an item that I know they sell, but it's not on the shelf. Every. Damn. Time. A few days ago, I couldn't even get an oil filter for a 2015...

With all that top shelf stuff, why cheap out on the annealer when you can have an AMP for $1600? https://shop.ampannealing.com/product/8/mk2-annealer/

    M11 Scouting

Not when I was there a few years back. Hell, I didn't even see many deer. IMO there's too many roads in that place and too many people that drive them. Wildlife can only ever get 1/2 mile from any road.

    So I bought some land...

My boy was able to fill his SD Mentored tag on our property last weekend. There aren't a ton of deer out there (yet), but it was very satisfying to get the first kill on our own land. 85 Barnes TSX out of a 22" 6mm Grendel @3010 FPS for the gun nerds like me.

    Elk meat help, Recipes...

I only keep the backstraps and tenderloins out. The rest gets ground or turned into jerky. Soak in water + lemon juice (or something acidic) a few days in the fridge to pull the blood / strong flavor out. I went to doing Sous Vide for any kind of "chop" or "steak", then sear on a really hot...

    Tailgates

Fishing rods don't belong in a pickup box. There's nothing good that can happen back there. Put them in the cab if you can.

I've always wanted a Garand myself. Love the dark wood on that one.

I don't think the old arm-stretch Ahab pose is necessary when you shoot a monster 7. What a beast.

To clean or not to clean

If you know it's going to sit for a while (even a few months), you should always at least run some kind of oil through it. Corrosion can kill a barrel just as easily as over-cleaning damage, depending on how you're storing your guns.

    Aluminum Trailers

I've been looking at trailers recently too, and to me, wood floor is the way to go. If you drop something heavy, or otherwise damage it, it's relatively cheap and easy to fix yourself. Just replace the damaged boards. Not so with metal decking.

2022 Elk Hunting stories and pics

I'll start. My brother and I were in Wyoming for 10 days on a DIY, public land, pack it in and out on your back-type archery hunt. We saw quite a few elk, including some really nice bulls, but initially, they were pretty quiet, and seemed to disappear altogether when 3 idiots riding around on...
