    ND deer opener

I will be getting some exercise helping out a friend's son with his youth tag. Probably bring the trident along in the event a coyote comes my way.

    Field dressing a deer

That's what I've got, and a 12 foot garage door rail bolted to the ceiling that can hang 4 deer on at a time.

    Field dressing a deer

Only reason I would quarter in the field is if were warm out (danger of spoilage before getting home). Also my dogs love giving the deer kisses when they are hanging up, so they appreciate it :)

    Coyotes

Been hearing them all summer, but now that the crop is off around the house they are IN the yard. Attempt number 3 was last night at around 0430. With the yellow lab yard dog call getting evermore hoarse over the last two weeks, he was having an absolute fit last night, when I heard a coyote...

    Pheasant opener 2017

This was the 2nd one she shot at. She tried to ground pound one off the road and missed. On the way home we met a combine that scared one up in the ditch and landed. I dropped her off to walk the ditch and she was able to spook him up. Glad she missed on the first shot or it would have been...

    Pheasant opener 2017

Took the daughter out for an hour last night to do a little scouting and she was able to connect on this little one. It might not have been big, but it was her first and she hit it on the fly in the head and neck saving all the meat. It was quite comical to here her complain about the 20ga...

    Wifes

Maybe it's a midlife crisis or maybe I'm a bigger asshole than I thought, either way she's moving on and I'm not going to stand in the way of her happiness. Now I just have to figure out how to keep the house and of course the boat!

    sugar beet season

Got done yesterday morning with 98 hours. Not totally unscathed this year...had a brake fire that ruined a tire, had another tire blow out, the beet cart backed into my trailer and put a ding in it. I did manage to miss 4 close calls with the elusive and evidently nearly extinct white tail...

    sugar beet season

Looks like midnight tonight for me. And yes, there will be mud this year...probably lots of it. I would rather be doing the KDM style of muddin!

    sugar beet season

As I participate in another season of beet harvest, I wish all a safe and accident free season. A few words of advice.... 1. Be careful of power lines in the field while raising the box. 2. Yield to loaded trucks, especially since the rain has made the shoulders soft on gravel roadways. 3...

When is the last time you saw a monarch?

I was mistaken, those were painted ladies. I have had a few dozen monarchs in the yard in the last week though.

Watch the back door, Sasquatch is coming!

Should be some blood on the knife for the CSI folks to check out. Just sayin. Guy probably should invest in some Duluth Trading Company gear, maybe some of those long tail t-shirts.

Lake Cabin for Rent - East Bay, Devils Lake

Some very big thanks goes out to espringers for hooking our group up with this great place to stay. We had some last minute problems with our original lodging plans and I know you had to scramble a little to make it all happen for us. The weather was perfect for the end of the day campfires...

    deer rifle results are out

3rd year denial for me and the daughter, 6th year denial for the boy. I think it's going to be difficult to keep our next generation interested in deer hunting if they can't hunt. Probably have to look into out of state opportunities or trade the guns off for some bows.
