    Build a root cellar?

We had a 32 volt wind charger on the farm when I was small. Batteries in the basement for lights, don't remember any appliances except a propane kitchen stove and fridge. The rock basement acted as a root cellar. Root crops where in large crocks of sand. That old house was cold!

Sb 2315 - reborn after house gutting!

The idea of saving the family farm for family agriculture sounds good in theory except it is other farmers buying up that land and driving the young people out. Everybody wants to get bigger and they don't want competition at a land auction so they can get a cheaper price per acre. Which shoots...

Sb 2315 - reborn after house gutting!

There is only 8 months left to organize something/some effort to support legislators who supported hunting, and to oppose 2315 type legislators. Every session hunters scramble to defeat laws that should be a no brainer in the first place. That email effort that started here on NDA against 2315...

    Pheasant Food Plot Mix

While running the dogs today about the only thing standing is corn. The cattails and grass are snowed down around here. Plenty of food in the corn but no real cover. I haven't seen a pheasant track in weeks. Pheasants Forever has some different food plot seed mixes they sell and one is a variety...

    Snowshoes

Last month I bought Crescent Moon 30". I am not impressed for soft new snow as the foot print is too small @ 175 lbs. My old set that I gave away years ago were 54" Alaskan style made from white spruce. Loved them but that company went out of business.

    End of Season

Probably the second worst upland season in many years for me. Wind and rain in Sept. where I hunt grouse. Rain, snow, standing water, and unharvested crops where I hunt pheasants. Still had fun though and the dogs didn't care about weather. Bought new snowshoes, forgetting how much more work...

    Tomorrows the day

You gave each other a good life. That's what counts in the end, but it is always tough to put them down.

GSP owners- how cold is too cold

If I'm hunting in cattails I don't worry about the dogs as they are out of the wind. But most of our walks are under an hour and then everybody is back in the heated truck. These are GWPs though.

    Recommend a Golden Retriever Kennel/Breeder

There you go, can't beat that deal. The puppy craziness is past, the pup is settling down, and it would be a great relief for the present owner.

    Browning BLR

I had one, early 70s, in .243. It would not fire if cold outside. I traded the SOB off.

    Rifle Opener 2019 countdown

I haven't hunted deer since '85 but still love the season. The neighbor kids come over all excited to get the latest sightings and it is fun to visit when they come back to the farm house with their stories. After the first weekend the casual deer hunters are done or slacking off and bird...

    Snorkel Gear

It's been many years but I second Snorkel Bobs in HI. After that trip we bought our own gear from a dive shop and packed it along. Well worth the price. You can get a long sleeve lycra dive shirt cheap that will save a blistering sunburn also.

    One last hunt

That just sucks. So sorry for your family. I'm sure you gave him a good life and you made the right decision at the end.

Purchasing ONLY hunting rights to land?

I could be wrong but I think the legislature passed a law prohibiting the sale of hunting rights. ??? It had to do with NRs & outfitters buying up all the hot spots.

    Pheasant Opener

Last year the October storm was bad but the birds came through in good shape. This year the cattail sloughs were already full of water so no cover there for pheasants. But all the corn is standing yet. It will take a few days to find out what damage occured.
