    Check out a website called Fly Fish Food. A couple of really solid guys from Utah make seriously awesome tutorials for more flies than you could care to tie. That website and just general YouTube videos are your go to. You'll learn by watching but more so by doing.

    rod weight/fish size

    I fish an 8 wt for pike. Throws the big flies just fine, but try to think of any other opportunity you may have before you get a new weight rod. Might be in your best interest to jump to 9 wt if you'll ever fish steelhead, salmon, some saltwater fish etc.
