My Wife and I made it to 20 years!!!

First off congrats KDM, and wishing you many more years. For us 51 is just around the corner. At wedding receptions I can see the fire in the eyes of the mother-in-laws when I tell the newlyweds I'm going to give them better advise than anyone. You can about hear a pin drop. Then I tell...

Do you use a sun shade on your riflescope?

I think I see better because it reduces any flare at all. Years ago I bought this piece of soft rubber tubing that was sort of accordion like so it collapsed with recoil. It slips on the back of your scope and keeps glare from your eyes. It's tough to use with glasses on, but it's...

    Tent recommendations.

Simply buy three or four yaks for the wife to pack it on. :) I'm afraid that at my age my tenting years have past, but looking at that Arctic Oven does make me day dream. At one time I had a Montana Canvas 12x17 wall tent. The last tent I owned was a Cabelas Denali 12.5x22.5. It was Realite...

Do you use a sun shade on your riflescope?

I carry a four inch. Got shafted at sunrise in Montana when a nice muledeer headed east nearly in line with the sun. All I coukd see was glare. When the sun gets on the horizon screw it on.

    Any rock hounds ?

I thought I did, but you could be right and I don't know. Maybe someone here can correct me if I am wrong. Below is the only piece I have picked up that I was told was chert. Isnt it usually grey like shale, but glossy and fractures like flint and obsidian? I have been told it's not...

    Any rock hounds ?

You fellows have a lot more imagination than I do. To me it just looks like interesting rocks. I don't see anything. Do you see the same thing without the mj? :) Skinning tools are made with igneous rock that fractures conchoidal not granite. The stone hammer looks good.

    Broken Gun Forearm

I dont have that much experience with shotguns, but I think I see the problem. Have you ever noticed there is some movement when you set rings in a rail mount? So many people have the recoil action reversed in their mind and snug up the rings while forcing them backwards. The rifle recoil...

    Re-barrel an older Ruger 10/22

It doesn't destroy anything Zogman, simply keep the original things to put it back together. Instead of a new gun buy a new stock. I have a Volquartsen carbon barrel on mine. It does a half inch at 50 yards with some of the standard ammo. At one time I had 30 bricks of Winchester Dynapoint...

    high power binocs

I had a pair of Canon image stabilized. I thought they were poor on the right side and sold them before I found out it was my eye. My brother has Canon image stabilized in 18x and you woukd think your on a tripod when you hit the button. One thing the other outstanding optics will not do is...

    Brush Gun

:)As opposed to ethically wounded? ::: That depends on range and amount of vital area the branch is covering. If you hit the branch I don't know the percentage of chance that deflection would cause a miss or wound, but it's higher than we like. If the branch is two inches thick and the deer...

    Brush Gun

They sure do deflect though. I have tried many times to hit a squirrel through very small twigs with a 180 gr round ball in my 50 cal Hawken and most often missed. There are good short quick to swing brush guns, but there are no good brush bullets. That said small diameter long fast spinning...

    Brush Gun

I think there is a big difference in tumbling before impact and tumbling after impact. Certainly we do not want a bullet tumbling before impact. I was watching a utube yesterday that I should search for this morning. A fellow sent a box of 9mm to utuber for testing. They were very pointed...

    Brush Gun

Considering the length of te bullet the caliber woukd increase with any tilt off axis. Keyholeing the 44 would be about 80 caliber, and likewise for the 45. With the 405 gr in the 45/70 a keyhole woukd be about 1.20 caliber. I didn't measure I just estimated from memory. My neighbors house...

    Brush Gun

I will have to disagree with you a little SDMF. I have blown three inch holes in deer heart at 172 yards with 250 gr hard cast from a 44 mag rifle. One has to ponder which does more damage a 44 or 45 hard cast that doesn't expand, or a 30 caliber that expands to 44. Disregarding velocity of...

    Brush Gun

Maybe 30 or even 40 years ago a fellow published his experiment in Outdoor Life. He had 1/4 in his dowels 1/4 inch apart in a 2x4 board set in front of a target. He set his dowels at two feet in front, then six feet in front and then ten feet in front. Maybe the lever guns in large calibers...

    SB 2315 / Lockout

The hypocrisy of some in agriculture is blatant. They tell us we should not support organizations like Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, but they belong to Farm Bureau, Farmers Union, Stockman Associations etc. It's do as they say, not do as they do...

    Electronic Posting

Im not sure if thats true or the opposite is true. I know a fellow( well, did know he has since passed) who woud rather a Wisconsin plate drove in his driveway than a North Dakota, and he actually stted so. They shell out the cash he explained.

I think it's a move to turn us into Texas. You pay to hunt a quarter or section of land. I have talked with fellows in Texas that pay by the acre to hunt quail. $5000 will get you a quarter for the year. I don't know if that is high, average, or low. No idea. Outfitters will love it. If...
