    Packing. Heading to Anchorage on the 9th for 10 days. Have reservations for an RV, wildlife cruise, Denali air tour and a halibut/salmon fishing trip. Tooling around the rest of the time. So excited!

    The river is a mile wide, just run down the middle! Watch out for the monster cottonwood logs floating though. Running in low light would be suicide now.

    Mostly pontoons on the river this time of the year......but from what I have seen recently, not much activity at all from boats or pontoons.

    I had a battery one years ago. When it died I went with a chorded one....the chord is a little bit of a pain but it's always ready to roll and have had it for 10-15 years. The problem I see with the gas trimmers is that they are so darn strong that they chew up trees and fence posts over time.

    I suppose the line for old dudes is different than young dudes. My line is closer to where it was when I started fishing. If I was just getting into it and finally making some decent coin, I doubt I would think twice about buying the best stuff I can afford and wouldn't worry about no stinkin...

    At the end of the day, I like to think I used my head to find and catch fish. I'm not so stubborn that I won't turn to technology for a shove in the right direction but my first thought is usually to ignore the technology and use my sniffer to find fish. That approach worked well 20-30 years...

When you see many fish on the graph in an area, then go through it and catch several, how many turned their nose up...

    You could replace the 2 deep cycle batteries and have 1 of the old ones tested, if it passes, use it for a starter (assuming it is a dual purpose battery). I always figure if my starter fails on the water, I can jump it from one of the others to get me home.
