    Does a shop with living quarters have issues with financing & insurance? I assume zoning could be an issue, not specifically you Mort. I recall some news about shops providing housing during the boom and the fire department worried about whether a building had an occupant.

    are you remembering, and am I recalling correctly, that the ice on the outside of the house goes up ~1 foot? I assume that means it melted in / sunk so I don't think just warmth from a greenhouse or straight up sunshine is going to take care of it. But I have been wrong many times...

    what a predicament... I agree with waiting a bit, at least until the frigid temp of this weekend are past... I would be leary of drilling through ice, for fear more water will come up... I wonder if using a chainsaw to cut a narrow trench along the outside of the entire house and filling it...
