Seeing shot patterns... which choke is "best"?

I shut a Patternmaster something or other that I'm sure is somewhere on the full spectrum. It's probably ALL mental, but for some darn reason I shoot way better with that then factory chokes.

To shave or not to shave... that is the ?

I have a slick GWP that needs no grooming, as well as a more wirey GWP. The latter gets a buzz in the summer, but I like it full and thick in the cooler months. We'll battle a few cockle burrs knowing I can hunt him all day in subzero temps.

    Jamestown gun range going byebye

There's a perfect argument why free-for-all ranges are going the way of the do-do. People who pay for range use tend to want to keep their home turf nice. Usually, anyway...

    Pheasant Recipes

Honestly? Ground pheasant leg burgers. No guff. You get a TON of meat off the legs, and grinding them is the easiest way (IMHO) to get all those darn tendons out. What I do is get the legs off like you normally would with a game bird, then spend a second or two snagging the easiest tendons...

    Rifle Season 2015

That's the beautiful benefits of so much phez habitat. The deer like it, too! Kind of like how Nodak used to be before we started hemorrhaging CRP acres.

    Rifle Season 2015

I'm guessing Bogey has a pretty coveted zone. Last year was the first year in 13 that I didn't get drawn. Came in with one preference point this year and got my second choice. So that's 13 of 14 years with a rifle tag. No, I'm not bragging. I think most people who put in where I do have a good...

The Great Windstorm of October 2015

Yesterday morning my yard was (mostly) devoid of leaves. By 5 p.m. it had accumulated the entire neighborhood's allotment of leaf litter. By this morning, it was (mostly) devoid of leaves again. I fear by this afternoon it'll be full once more.

whistles vs. voice vs. TT collar vs....???

I have the remote strapped to either my belt or my vest on my off-hand side. If I need to locate a dog or offer a command, I just reach down and do it. I train all summer with my dogs, so I know the operation of the remote pretty much second nature. Just a point of clarification: I'm not...

whistles vs. voice vs. TT collar vs....???

Yup...there are two functions (which as far as I can tell are virtually the same): you can set the unit to "point" or "treed." I don't know how long the dog needs to stand still, but after a little bit the transmitter will notify you that a dog is on point. You can check the map to see where...

    Rifle Season 2015

I can't believe we're less than a month out from rifle opener and no chatter! Is everyone ill?? Let's break down what we should talk about in this thread, just to get the juices flowing: Too many/few gun licenses Need to/not limit archery tags Many/few deer in (state your zone) North Dakota...

whistles vs. voice vs. TT collar vs....???

I have both my GWPs voice, whistle and collar trained. Everything has a time and place. The whistle gets used if they're in the thick stuff and I want them to cast one way or the other, or come back to me. The collar tone gets used quite often, as I just don't like making noise when I hunt...

    Ready for Action!

I agree the blaze orange can be overblown a bit, but I like hunting with guys who at a bare minimum wear an orange cap. Seeing that in your peripheral is a good safety feature...even if you're 100 percent sure you know where everyone is. All I hunt are cattails for roosters, and they get tall...

    Alabama Alpha Phi banned?

It's banned because of littering, right? All that glitter just haphazardly blown all over God's green earth. Slobs if you ask me.

    and.........

I enjoy NRs. They're a soft-skinned bunch apt to hunt the few warm months and then tuck-tail at the first sign of cold...thus leaving the best hunting months of the entire year free and clear to the rest of us. Heck, have at'em! Enjoy the time here. I'll pick up all the leftovers after you're...

    Worst Hunters Ever

Private property I'm totally with you guys. But I'm sorry, if someone hangs a stand on public property, tough beans. You're not supposed to leave those things out over night anyway. I don't personally care for tree stands, so I'm not one to shanghai one on public property. But if it's a good...

Who's going qucak quack hunting...I mean ducking hunting this weekend

Can't wait. Scouted a bit last weekend. Numbers looked about average. If things keep drying up it'll really help. Last thing we need right now is more precip.

Fargo Diversion and the ND Game and Fish

Maybe they see it as spending from limited funding on something that has very little impact? If the RRV was covered in grasslands, ponds and groves of trees, I'd totally hear what you are saying. But it's a black grease stain that stretches 30 miles east and another 30 miles west with more...
