1.5" high is going to be ~200yd zero. You're going to be 6-8" low @ 300, top of back @ 350, and turn your 3-9 Leupold up to 9x and use the duplex intersection as your 450yd aiming point which can be cheated into the bottom 3rd of the critter and used for 400yd holdover.

2, however we were on the last week of the 1st year. Our team leader was a great guy but a high body count was not his primary concern. If he would've loosened the reigns a bit I could've shot 3-4 more.

There's nothing wrong with that method if you like to miss a lot. With the exception of a calm unaware critter you can range and hold the +3.5" 100yds zero properly, most folks overestimate distance and cheat crosshairs towards the top 1/3 of an animal.

I want one that takes "Devils Lake Scum" off of a boat while leaving paint/gel coat behind.

I can't say that's anything I'd ever suggest as a tactic to anyone ever for anything.

Off the top of my head I think of 25 deer and/or elk that I've killed that have been moving before the shooting ever started. A couple at <25yds hauling ass out of cattails and a few over 300 including 1 bull elk running for all he was worth. Movers don't worry me much, not a lot different...

I carry my rifle on the lowest power setting anything from 3x up to 6.5x depending upon what rifle/scope I'm using. I'll typically go to max power if I have a longer shot on a calm stationary animal.

Plenty pass on does because there are typically more "doe in range" opportunities. There are LOTS of spike, fork, <80" bucks that get killed because they're close enough and they're "a buck". There's still plenty of folks who push tree-belts for deer and have a poster fling arrows at deer on...

Here's one of the better and more scientific non-lead projectile culling results analysis that was done via data collected during the TRNP elk culling of 2011-2013: https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1037&context=hwi

I've seen petals come off but I can't say that I've seen really large exit wounds. Rarely larger than the size of a golf-ball.

Olympic shooting coaches and every branch of the military/law enforcement that employs Snipers should be recruiting in sporting goods stores the week before and week after rifle opener.

    Badlands mule deer

You haven't spent much time in sporting goods stores the week before archery or rifle opener. While it may not be the case with your hunting group, the VAST majority of deer hunters are in the "Brown it's down" category. Here's a couple clues: 1. How many times can I shoot this broadhead...

I’ve killed deer with TSX’s of various bore diameters from 85gn up to 200gn with muzzle velocities from 2900-3800. On deer in particular, there’s almost no difference regarding how they actually “kill”. The 100/.257’s @3800 are the lone exception in that I’ve had a couple of marginal hits just...

I disagree. I took this buck in '07 trotting behind a doe @ 325yds and used the 300yd "bowtie" in Leupold's B&C reticle to very good success. The far edge of each bowtie is the hold-off for 10MPH wind, I used that as my aiming point on the trotting buck. I prefer to dial elevation and...

Loved mine. I love them for the exact reason Jiffy doesn't like them, I don't have to leave them on. Jiffy, if you want one that stays on you could get the Spartan 300 model. You can still leave your 50cm legs on but they'll fold up under the bbl as well...

If you don't know the range, you have to guess about: 1. Range, which means you also have to guess about: 2. Drop 3. Drift/lead If you DO know the range you have to guess about: 1. Drift/lead, sort of. Because with knowledge of range, you can also know drop for sure. Drop is gravity...

It'd take me less than 30min to have a scope with lots of travel mounted and say 12-15 shots downrange in order to establish a 200yd zero and a good constant velocity then run a ballistic table. Assuming you have a precise zero and accurate velocity with relatively low ES/SD there's only 2...

Little bit of Capt'n obvious here. Let's say that 180" and greater is a "Trophy" Mule Deer in ND. There are 2 constants you absolutely HAVE TO HAVE. 1. The willingness to not fill your tag at all. 2. Time Neither of the above will guarantee you a big deer, Tim S documented this well...
