They reduce the mule deer doe tags to ZERO to increase the mule deer populations and NOW the NDGF is going to try to further increase the mule deer populations by creating a sustainable mountain lion population who's diet is 70% mule deer???????????????
Anyone else see a problem with these...
The thing that bothers me the most is this.....DOES THE PRESIDENT OF THE BIGGEST UNIVERSITY IN THE STATE HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN THIS?!?!?!?!?!?! If I were still a student there, I would protest his salary as a waste of university funds.
You can make a bigger enclosure if you run the fence 8 ft and tilt the fence at a 60 degree angle or so. The deer don't like to jump wide sections of fence as much so they will walk up and under the top of the fence and most won't attempt to jump a barrier that's 6 ft tall AND 4 ft wide. It...
'bout 30 ft if I recall, 15 ft for the crown of each tree. You biggest problem with having larger than individual cages is going to be the little bucks getting in there and rubbing the trees. They seem to ABSOLUTELY LOVE rubbing on fruit trees. It must be the scent they get off the bark or...
Used frozen goldeye one year for big pike and they worked pretty well. I can't think of a stinkier bait than a dead goldeye. The hole would be covered in oil, but the pike didn't seem to care. The biggest we caught was 12.
Unfortunately, the bigger you make the enclosure the more apt the deer are to jump inside. Garden fences are a prime example. Even for your bait station, I would go with an enclosure just big enough to give you what you want. JMHO though. Also, you might want to make sure the small openings...
It's a daylight thing. Most land species HAVE to use daylight to avoid the wild variances in weather from year to year so they don't crash an entire generation due to a shorter than average winter where everything melts, they nest or breed, and then you get 3 ft of snow that lasts 6 weeks right...
They do that very thing all the time in Canada, but I don't think you need 6-7 ft of fence. 4 ft has worked for me for years. Chicken wire doesn't hold up the snow burden worth a crap. It warps, bends, breaks, and really protects nothing as most deer can just push it over or in. I would go...
I would vote shotgun as rifles tend to ricochet more than lead pellets which would put livestock as well as the aircraft and personnel at risk. Also, if you look at the dust clouds, they are much bigger than what I would expect to see from a single projectile.
Yep!! I put it about 2-3 inches down in the ground when I plant the tree. Ever see the mole trails in your lawn in the spring? I try to put the drain tile down far enough to give'em a nose bleed when they run into it during winter. The little vermin can and will on occasion chew through the...
I only put drain tile on the trees in my hunting area. The chickens kill all the mice in the yard, so girdling is less of a problem. LOL!! This is basically what I do to protect my trees from rodents, but I go about 2 ft up instead of this puny excuse....
Thanks for the plug sbe2, but don't worry. As far as I'm concerned, the youngsters have nothing to do with discussions like this and I hope no landowner gets so upset that they punish the kids for the "Sins" of the adults. As long as I own land, at least a few youngins will have a place to...
HaHaHa!!! Good Lord Kentucky!! Talk about jumping into the deep end of the pool. We're trying to welcome the poor lad, not grab'em, tie him up, and throw'em to the dogs.
Hey Travis, Welcome!!!! Put on your Big Girl Panties, Your Thick Skin, Check your logic and common sense at the door, grab your sense of humor, and join the fray!!!
I don't think he is blaming the G&F, but I AM for not making the most popular big game animal on the North American Continent and in North Dakota a bigger priority for sound scientific management. The landowners have very little to do with determining tag numbers so why is it so common to pound...
