Hunting Somali Pirates

The saddest thing I ever witnessed happened over there. We were on a security patrol (mechanized) and of course the kids would swarm and get in the way. There was this one little guy kind of hanging back, he was a lot smaller and less aggressive than the rest. We were instructed not to give them anything for obvious reasons. Well I couldn’t listen to that. I tossed him a sand bar (an oatmeal bar from a MRE) and as soon as the caught it the older bigger kids attacked him. I still remember the look on his face. That wasn’t just a sand bar to him, it wasn’t a special treat, it was life for maybe a couple more days. I will never forget that. As much as I wish I could!! Remember that when you’re eating your prime rib tomorrow. Remember that!! We’re very lucky!!

I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer on Christmas. Just keep things in perspective gents. Say Merry Christmas to someone you don’t know, put an extra 20 in the communion plate, make amends with an estranged friend. Life is short! Do some good, this world needs it!

After my tour in the Corps, I am well known to tell people just how lucky they are to have been born an American. There are a pretty good number of places on this planet where life just starts out shitty based on the geography, and doesn't get much better over time.

May the Good Lord continue to bless us, and may we at least be thankful for being an American.
