    "Off" Brand Crankbaits & Effectiveness?

The Cabelas copies of the Reef Runners are tuned way better for sure. But I still catch more fish on the RR's? And then there is the whole copying a lure thing that Cabelas does that bothers me a bit but that is another story. I think I mainly buy other types because I don't want to feel...

    Iron dog 2017

I understand it is a race and all, but 10 miles from the start? Crap happens but from the sounds of that they didn't have a snowball's chance in hell at making it 2000 miles. What are the conditions like they are riding on? The pin it to win it strategy doesn't seem like it would end up well.

    "Off" Brand Crankbaits & Effectiveness?

So the other night we were sitting around having a conversation we have had many times before. Why does it seem that the "off" brand crankbaits just don't catch as much? Is it the fact that we don't fish them as much? Less confidence? Or do they just not work as well? For example, before...

    Perch/Panfish Bobber Boards

I grew up fishing this way. A small bobber in the hole, then some slack line, then a big bobber sitting on top of an old Schmidt big mouth bottle. The sound of a bobber coming off the glass bottle and hitting the ice is burned into my head LOL! My dad still covets his collection of big mouth...

    Sakakawea Trip Timing Help?

We fish the N end of Oahe mainly and have been less than impressed the past few years. Fishing sucks, at least compared to the glory days of 10 years ago. Thinking of heading up to pillage Sakakawea for a long weekend sometime this summer. I have fished the East end a bit, staying at the...

    Winter Lull

I just have found alternative winter activities. Fished less than normal this winter, have been XC skiing instead. Great workout and it gives me a reason to enjoy a fresh snowfall. Still like to fish here and there, just maximize the opportunities. Spring will come when it does!

    Other hobbies/interests

Well....do a little woodworking, gardening, and lots of cooking. Run, road bike, mountain bike, and XC ski for fitness. Golf only when I have to. And if you can't tell, no kids LOL! That will change things......

Any spring snow hunters on here

My snow goose hunting progression went like this- Built 400 SS in college, along with ecaller, etc. Hit the spring migration a few years, did OK at best. Spent hours worrying about being too late in the migration, LOL that never happened. Kept building the spread, got up to 750 decoys with...

    Culture of Mediocrity

Let me get this straight- I don't expect the best coach in the world to take a group of kids who doesn't pick up a basketball during the summer to a .500 record. Now, I do expect great things from a great coach with a group of kids who played all summer long. It's really simple, you must have...

    Culture of Mediocrity

Yes, but as a great basketball coach once said- If you want to make chickens, it's a lot easier to make them from eggs rather than chicken crap. A good coach can take average kids and make them great. And a bad coach can do little with good kids. But neither can do anything with bad ones.

    Culture of Mediocrity

I agree with his article as a whole. The world we live in demands that a student participating in athletics makes a serious commitment to the sport. Not a lot of kids are 3 sport athletes anymore because they simply can't be competitive at all of them. To be really good, you have to choose...

Midlife crisis? Epiphany? Or am I insane?

I'm in year 2 of a similar conversion from industry to education. It is good you are going through the classes and student teaching. I went straight from industry to the classroom as SD allows individuals who have BS/BA degrees to fast track towards a teaching certificate. It was an...

    Coming Upon Winter Kill

How bad is it out there? That is close to home for me. I am expecting the worst, deer were just coming back from EHD. Birds got pounded by the late July hail storm. I haven't been up since deer season though, probably too much snow to get to any lakes at this point.

    Coming Upon Winter Kill

Wouldn't surprise me a bit. In 96/97, deer and antelope took a huge beating in NC SD along the tracks. They traveled them heavily because of easy travel and congregated around elevators. It was a gruesome sight at times. Sad......

    Christmas Blizzard

I live in the Hills and spend a decent time XC skiing each winter. There is enough snow to make for good trail riding, that last storm finally put enough snow on the ground to get a decent base for the trails. But, I would not even think about riding off trail. The north facing slopes can...

Spent the afternoon behind a snowblower

I feel for you guys. Yuck. Cleared an entire lot today with a skid steer in about an hour so we can start excavating for a foundation. With the type of snow you've got it would have taken a week LOL!

    Christmas Blizzard

Only 6" with a lot of wind in W SD along I90. We had 4-6 on the ground before but it was solid and didn't blow. Some areas are clean while others have some drifting. Feel sorry for you guys up there. Wind still blowing.....
