It was too much drag for the speed. The motor was heating up after a few longer cuts. They should have never sold it with the 10 inch bit. The 8 inch is a modern marvel on the thing, though.
They were a Wankel rotary motor. Buddy had a AC Lynx with one we got tuned up and running. It was funny how it would misfire when you hit a good bump. Not a real impressive motor.
With enough buffoonery one could snap(or bend) that drill shaft with some side to side torque. The plate removes the side pressure from the drill shaft as well.
Go drill 50 holes in an outing with one and the next day drill 50 more with one. It makes a difference unless you are only into punching 4 holes in your shack and calling it quits.
