What have you cooked on an open fire ?

Any time "Over the Campfire" cooking comes up, my mind immediately goes to "Stand by Me" and "Vern" losing his hamburger into the fire, digging and poking, getting it back and admonishing the others with, "Screw you guys, I got it!!". My YouTubefoo is weak, I couldn't find a video of the above...

    Aluminum vs Fiberglass

I don't have sausage fingers. Pike slime, mayfly goo, other assorted boat floor stainage is easily combatted with a little simple green, a scrubbing broom, and a little water off the fiberglass floor.

8 Sconi's cited for 24 over their limit

Hyw's US13, I-94, US200, US2, US 281 and ND59 at a minimum should have rolling/random game checks of every boat coming into or leaving ND. Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays for sure.

What have you cooked on an open fire ?

Friend of my dad's used to do the dutch oven in a pit all day bit for prime rib. Put the prime in the dutch oven, pack rock salt all the way around it. Dig the hole then put the dutch oven in and cover with the coals from the previous night's campfire. It was ready when we'd finish a day's...

    Crestliner Transom Woes

On my bill, Crestliner's cost for the wooden transom piece is $68.25. I realize it would probably be 5x the cost (Maybe 10x the cost) but I'd think they could put a piece of UHMW in there that'd be just as stiff and would survive nuclear war.

    Aluminum vs Fiberglass

Having owned 2 AL boats ('78 Mr Pike, '06 1850 FishHawk) and 2 glass boats ('99 Ranger 681VS and '12 186 TFX Yar Craft) I'd say the above is partly true. My Yar Craft and Crestliner were pretty darn close to identical length/width. Same length, the Yar is 3.5" wider and ~3" deeper. Yes, the...

    Crestliner Transom Woes

I believe Skeeter is having the same problems w/wood transoms rotting in their glass boats. My Yar Craft pictured above doesn't have any wood in it. - - - Updated - - - They don't cover that repair either. My boat was fixed @ the Lund factory in New York Mills and the lady there told me...

    Crestliner Transom Woes

How do you check that? - - - Updated - - - Given the level of rot found post-weld fix, it's likely that the rot caused the crack by allowing more flex in the transom than it's designed for.

    Crestliner Transom Woes

I have a 2006 1850 FishHawk with a 150HP Suzuki 4-stroke. Last fall I noticed 2 cracks in the transom welds. I called Crestliner customer service (which is a misnomer, it should be labeled Brunswick company protection) they wanted nothing to do with dealing with the end consumer directly so I...

    Rapala cranks

The Cabelas imitation Reef Runners (Walleye Runners) run far more true than do original reef runners. I have yet to have one of them in the reef runner or little ripper size that didn't run true out of the package.

    Rapala cranks

Reef Runner's "Tune-A-Fish" tool is IMO the easiest tool to use. You bend the loop in the lip in the opposite direction of the crank's deviation from straight.

    Lake trout tips

3-Way swivel. 2+oz snap sinker. Rattle-Trap/similar on a 12-24" snell. While stationary, drop to the bottom, reel up as fast as you can allowing the 'trap to spiral up towards the surface. Probably works with a crankbait on the snell too. I'd consider the white/pearl glass shadrap as well.

Good job for stopping and doing what you could. Don't give a second thought to the "What if's". You can't change any of them. If you find you must dwell on a "What If", then dwell upon this: "What if I hadn't stopped? The guy wouldn't have had any chance at all." I'd be more inclined to be...

Lease or buy? need your opinions guys.

Please do explain how that truck only cost you $1K/yr. I see the difference between purchase and trade price, what I don't see is that somewhere you had a payment, whether it was up front or monthly. You cannot just completely dismiss those payments when calculating cost of ownership. Like I...

Lease or buy? need your opinions guys.

That truck cost you $1K/yr, + any up front down payment, + your monthly lease payment. Let's say you had $0 down and a $300/mo lease payment, that means the truck cost you $4600/yr. That said, if you know where a person can get a $0 down, 0% $83/mo lease on a new truck, please do let me know...
