    Savage or Tikka?

Yep, right now I'm thinking H1000, RL22, and maybe try some H4350, since I already have some I use for my 243.

    Savage or Tikka?

I agree the ELD-X is designed for critters. However, the A-MAX is not. Yes it will kill stuff, but if you hit an elk in the shoulder, who knows what'll happen.

    Savage or Tikka?

An Amax on elk? -- Steve Hornady would kick you in the balls... I'm sure you are much more knowledgeable on the subject than I am -- and seems like this subject has come up before -- but IMHO: you're pushing your luck even using that on deer.

    Savage or Tikka?

Update: I actually went with a Remington 700 SPS in 7mm Rem Mag. You're welcome svnmag, but I don't think you'll get me to shoot Fusions through it :D I handled the Savage, Tikka, and Remington and found the Rem just 'felt' better. Although I know the Tikka is not, both the Savage and the...

    Water filters for backpack hunting

I've used the Katadyn Hiker Pro in the past -- or maybe it was just the 'hiker' -- same difference. It seemed to work well enough to keep 3 guys hydrated for 10 days. It can be a little awkward running the straight 'up and down' pumping action. I think the lever-type action is probably more...

    Pickup - I need one

Already dipped in snow camo for those winter spec-ops: Picked this '15 up about a month ago. You say you don't need bells and whistles, but when you have them, they are 'neat'. Gets 18-19mpg flying down the interstate at 80 (if the wind isn't a jerk). 15-17 with the boat on (at 55-60)...

Leash law applys to Cats to

Like most things, neither side is completely 'right' here. Neighbor shrugging off cat dumping complaints = Jackassery. Shooting a cat with a pellet gun = Douchebaggery. Like others have said, if you decide you really must shoot an animal with a potentially lethal device, make sure you kill it...

    Savage or Tikka?

Wow, that's harsh. I've heard the ones on the larger calibers can be less good, but the one on my 22-250 is sweet. Breaks clean at just under two pounds. I've never had to / tried to adjust it. The only issue I have with it is that you can pull the main trigger without pulling the...

    Looking to buy an AR

Yep, need to know your intentions. An AR can be many different things. Many will tell you to build your own so you get everything you want, but that can be overwhelming for newcomers. As for factory guns, I would look closely at the Huldra Mark IV 5.56 Tactical Elite they have a Fleet Farm. I...

    Lowrance Chirp 7 Sale

I have this exact unit. No complaints. I have it bow-mounted and run through the transducer on my Minnkota.

    Savage or Tikka?

Aside from other factors, typically the 'mountain gun' is short, light and handy, while the long-range bomber is long and heavy. I'm afraid that if I tried to build a gun somewhere in the middle, it would end up being 'just ok' at both. Those carbon fiber-wrapped barrels may be an answer to...

    Savage or Tikka?

I guess I threw out Remington because you can't seem to get a 300 WSM in left-hand. Although more recent research has me back on the fence between 7mm and 300 WSM... -7wsm seems to barely exist, so that's out. -300 Win mag is out cause the WSM does everything better and is also available in...

    Savage or Tikka?

I thought a caliber debate might spring out of this. Yes, I reload. I am a fan of the 7mm rem mag. The reason I'm thinking 300 wsm is shorter action, more efficient cartridge design (powder-wise), etc. Now everyone tell me how and why I'm wrong.... :D

    Savage or Tikka?

Nice. This had not occurred to me. Make it heavier when you want it, lighter when you don't. - - - Updated - - - Good question. Whatever I get will definitely need to get threaded. I plan to handle both and try to do some measuring. My brother had to saw an inch or two off his 7mm Sako...

    Savage or Tikka?

Good advice KDM. However, I already have all those things, I've wanted a 'big bore' rifle for a while to fill out the collection, and I have more money than I probably ought to. I'm getting a new rifle. Already prepped the wife.

    Savage or Tikka?

Here’s the details. I was drawn for an elk tag, and currently my largest bore rifle is 243 win. This is a good problem to have. I’ve narrowed my caliber choice to 300wsm. I shoot left handed, so factory rifle options are limited. I’ve narrowed that to either: Savage 11...

Does muzzleloader season mean the end of elk calling?

Thanks guys. We're going to the White River National Forest area. I forget which units offhand. Never been there before. We're doing the DIY backcountry thing, so hoping to get into the wilderness and avoid most of the ass-hat-ery. That strategy worked pretty well last time in the Rawah...

    gamakatsu hooks

Yeah, I was going to ask what you're doing with them. I've run gamas for years and only broken a few with a pliers trying to get them out of a walleye mouth or boat carpet.

    Prop repair

Try out Ricks Welding in Fargo. He does a lot of props, but I don't recall if he does stainless. I had him fix my aluminum one for 60 bucks. -- But it took a few weeks. I had it done over the winter. The prop looks good and performs well. The only complain is his paintjob does not seem to...
