    Prediction - First Ice

Doesn't look like any real "ice-making" weather until sometime in December right now for the southern part of the state. I know my pond in the backyard had a good skim of ice on it, but has started to look pretty iffy over the past few days.

I believe there is a legal way for you to shoot someone else's deer. Especially if that were a gratis tag. And no, the NDGF doesn't want every tag issued to be filled. They want roughly the same percentage of tags filled each year. I think from their perspective, if party hunting were legal...

Now that they can shoot a deer at the age of 11, I don't think I need to worry about that scenario. However, I am quite sure that happens (happened) often and I am not as opposed to that scenario as I am to Joe Shmoe that I just happen to be in the field with thinking he has the green light to...

Talk me into a deer rifle

I wanted a 280 Rem in model 700 way back when I bought my 7 mm Rem Mag. I just couldn't afford the cost of the 280s I found, they were all in Remington Classic's lineup and people seemed to think they were made of gold. Note. I just never thought I needed a magnum, and already having a 25-06...

Casey, Remember, this is how we got the requirement to keep tags on mounts, or risk losing them. Along with that, you are also no longer able to pick up a dead skull. Thought behind that was we were going to go around shooting deer, leaving them lay, and then come back later and just tell...

Reverse is your friend. If it slides forward, it will also slide to the back given the right encouragement.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone would let someone else shoot their deer. Especially in times like this where you only get a single rifle tag a year. Maybe back in the days of multiple tags, but I would have serious issues with someone shooting a deer and expecting my season to be over.

    Santa

I played Santa a few times back in my 20s while in the Corps. I was too young for it then and was uncomfortable with it. I'd be much more of a natural fit nowadays in portraying a fat, bearded older guy. :(

    Military question

The amount of infidelity I saw during my four in the Corps was actually a factor in my deciding to get out. Other than that, I really enjoyed it as a single young man. So I got out, got married, and still ended up divorced. Maybe I should have just stayed in?

    Albino Deer Shot in WI

I too would be interested to know why Cheeseland protects this deer and not that one.

    Curse of Oak Island

The funny thing about the whole thing is that I'm unconvinced they really ever want to find out what is, or is not, down there. We have the tech today to drill in the deep ocean and HIT an oil well's casing, drill through the casing to kill a well blowout. And yet, these clowns won't bring in...

Do you process your own deer?

OK, so I actually talked with the ND Dept of Health. I was misled, it is NOT illegal for butcher shops to commingle your deer with mine. That does it, I am officially never taking another deer to a butcher shop that won't swear on their mother's grave that they don't mix your gutshot, hung in...

    Shooting Range Safety

If someone is down range and you even fondle your bolt, you're going to hear from me. A rifle is to be CLEARED and left alone until all are back from the targets. An accidental discharge is maybe even worse than someone "aiming" at a target.

Bordering on Nazi-like. Hate that crap in the grinding process.

Do you process your own deer?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it was illegal for processors to commingle meat from different customers?

Do you process your own deer?

I've gone back and forth on this over the years. I like my product better than pretty much everywhere I've ever tried, but I don't enjoy the processing as much as I should. So I literally bounce back and forth, one year I do my own...the next I may pay someone else. - - - Updated - - - Note...

    Used marine electronics

Market, yes. Exorbitant prices...probably not. Electronics loses about 30-40% of its value each year. So you could maybe get $600-700 for what you paid $1,000 for last year, and $350-$400 for it after year two, etc, etc. By the time it's 3-5 years old, it's not worth much at all to most of...

    Buffalo Hunt

Your wife has a funny name. I'd say you lead a charmed life, not only in locations but in finding a great partner that enjoys the same activities! That is a great job the two of you did on this one, a buffalo hunt has got to be a challenge.

    Any Birders here?

Most likely the mourning doves' annoying ass European cousin, the Eurasian Collared Dove. They don't migrate like the Mourning Doves, but I suppose there's probably a Mourning Dove or two that actually tries to overwinter in ND. - - - Updated - - - The State Capitol usually has a flock of...

    Remington model 30 express 30 06

For me... Original wood stock I cracked running through deadfall in cattails chasing a deer some twenty years ago. Also broke the scope and hurt my ribs. Lesson learned. Replacement synthetic I cut down to fit my girlfriend and son last year. I now have a Tikka that fits them, so I can...
