    Pre-Rut Activity?

Not V's fault. I think the system is slick. Maybe you just need to take the hint. :;:huh

    E-Collar

Check out collarclinic.com. They'll repair/refurbish any make or model of e-collar, and they sell refurbished ecollars too. Unless you really want to upgrade, it's probably worth shelling out $100 for them to do it right.

Well this is going to get interesting

Ya know, we've gotten some pretty nasty ice storms deer opener weekend. That's only a couple weeks out. Just sayin'...

What do you make to eat for hunting?

For deer opener, there will be leftover Halloween candy and granola bars.

Bird dog out hunts half the group

I've trained mine to remote flush if needed. Sometimes in the thick stuff if I can't get to them, I can holler "OK" and they'll bust the bird. But that doesn't happen often. Usually I can get to the bird, or at least close enough to make them edgy and flush.

    After the hunt!

3Roosters says its a plug, which is definitely preferable. If I needed to run the truck all night for some reason, they'd be sleeping in the cab.

Bird dog out hunts half the group

To make it more fair on the birds? You're probably right. Remy and Blitz have done more damage to North Dakota's wild fowl populations than Avian Flu, coyotes, hawks and blue platers, combined. There's probably a law against that sort of efficiency, somewhere...

    After the hunt!

Can you recommend a specific unit? That looks perfect.

Bird dog out hunts half the group

If my dogs catch a bird, it's because a shot has been fired. They're pointers and are trained steady to wing, shot and fall. Pouncing on a bird before dad flushes it or it flushes on its own is a huge no-no.

    After the hunt!

So far the dogs haven't had to spend a super cold night in the pickup. But during the late season, they ride with a heat retaining kennel pad and I have a surplus military wool blanket to cover them. Dogs put off a ton of BTUs. As long as there is some sort of insulation, they can stay pretty...

    After the hunt!

Both dogs get a quick tailgate once-over after every hunt. You'd be surprised how beat up dogs get in the field and won't make a whimper.

    Taxadermist recommendation

Damn expensive, but you get a museum quality product in return.

Boat Last Time Out This Weekend

What's fishing? Seriously though, I need to winterize my boat. Since hunting started I kind of forgot it was there. It's my catch-all for hunting gear this time of year. Right now it's buried under a pile of camo, decoys, waders, etc.

    Lost dog Bismarck

Totally. I have two wirehairs, which is twice the amount of anxiety when hunting cattails. GPS collars are expensive if you compare them to standard e-collars. But when compared to all the other expenses, they're a freaking bargain. And you can't really put a price tag on the peace of mind...

    Lost dog Bismarck

Lost in a cornfield. That blows. Yet one more reason I feel like GPS collars are worth the price.

i bait deer with huge piles of corn!

I cover myself in molasses, roll in cracked corn then just sit and wait for the deer to come to me. I AM THE BAIT PILE.

That's so awesome. What memories. Congrats to her and you for getting such an awesome wife.
