    anyone have any homemade ice fishing lure ideas

    I often will take the treble off a spoon, usually a shiny or bright one, and put a 6-8 inch floro leader with a single hook. This is what I use almost exclusively on my dead sticks. The spoon is a great "sinker" and gives off a bit of flash with a squirming minnow beneath it.

    Ditto. Some of my best hunts have been fields with a dozen geese or less. For whatever reason, we managed to pull in birds the next morning that I'd never seen scouting. Not always, but I'd rather set up somewhere with geese, regardless of how many, than with no geese.

    Favorite Ice rod/reel combo

    Thorne Brothers Perch Sweetheart with a Pflueger President spinning reel. Perfect walleye/perch combo and definitely worth the price. If I could get back the money from every el-cheapo ice rod I'd bought, I'd be able to buy a few more TBs!

    I was pleasantly surprised to actually see new PLOTS in some of my favorite areas. First time I've noticed that in at least 5 years...maybe more. Maybe the start of an upward trend??? Wishful thinking, I know...

    Things my dog ate

    You guys are lucky. The one time my dog ate something (a sock) it plugged him up and cost me $1,500 to remove. Good thing he's the best damn bird dog I've ever known. Sort of makes up for it.

    Goose opener

    I was thickening the same thing. Freaking 90s. Might want to turn a spray paint a big Yeti cooler like a goose and have it full of ice so the birds don't rot before the hunt is through.
