    For the record SM are also sunfish. My theory is crayfish causes the difference if any. Both SM I tried to fillet years apart had a strong "insect" smell. IDK...

    LM in the 12-14in range are nothing different than big bluegill. In fact that's exactly what they are. Never ate a SM. Tried cleaning two and both had the same foul odor. He firmed the meat and cleaned flavor with the salt/ice bath. Sprite salt and ice would have been good too.
