making my own jigs, trapping and keeping my own minnows

I use the Eagle Claw 570 hooks and haven't had them straighten out on a fish yet. Rocks, wood, misc. river car bodies....they straighten out if the snag is just on the hook with 10 lb pp. Here are the colors I currently have with gold and candy orange being my least favorite. These are all...

    Captain Higgins

I never let the bastages get that far. After I returned from missions to adverse locations and felt queasy, instead of going through the rigemarole of paperwork to get a prescription, I'd just get a shot of Ivermectin from the vet and that took care of everything.

making my own jigs, trapping and keeping my own minnows

Jigs look good arrow!!! I just went through Scheels and HOLY BUCKET O" BOLTS BATMAN do they know what they want for jigs. 80 cents each for plain lead jig heads they call "Silver". Most jigs are 30 plus cents each. YIKES!! I just picked up 5 new colors for my jigs to try out, so now I'm all...

Thanks to the US Military and my missions to Afghanistan, Panama, the Amazon jungles of Peru, Columbia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Guiana, and Suriname, I've had AND KILLED Malaria, Various intestinal parasites, and fly eggs laid on my person. Military service has more PERKS than just getting...

    Rod for pitching jigs

For your budget, it might not be a dumb idea to look at a custom rod build. You can pick exactly what blank, sensitivity, length, Line Guide # and material, and rod butt material. For my ONE rod for muddin' I use a 6 ft ml custom rod with a st. croix blank and a wood handle. I can cast well...

    Thunder storms

Ashtabula is about 6 feet low right now and the Sheyenne is just a trickle. Getting a good 4 inch soaker all along the Sheyenne river wouldn't break my heart I can tell you that.

Price of having a well drilled

Having one's own water source is paramount to true independence. I for one, love having the ability to turn one valve and shut off rural water and go on well water. It's also nice to be able to choose which water to use for the lawn, garden, livestock, etc. Should water become scarce and the...

    Fishing Kayak Input Requested

That costs extra!! - - - Updated - - - The big rig is in the lead for me right now, but I now have to reevaluate the hobie products. Which is cool and why having a site like NDA is so valuable. Lots of folks with experiences not available elsewhere.

    Fishing Kayak Input Requested

Wind on the Sheyenne is less of a problem than open water or even the red. A kayak on some of my perch sloughs would be AWESOME!!! The possibilities make me smile.

    Fishing Kayak Input Requested

Well that's some good info wkndwarrior, but that whole business about NOT being dumb.....I don't think I'm capable of living up to that. Thanks for the reality viewpoint. I'll give them another look. :;:thumbsup

    Mouse River - Minot

I would try the dam by the zoo and try the downstream side of the bridge. The fish aren't real aggressive and have been hanging out in the slow current sections of the rivers. Close to the dam may be to much current for them right now, but in a couple of weeks......Katie Bar the Door!!!! Jig...

    Fishing Kayak Input Requested

A hobbie won't work very well in the Sheyenne where I plan on fishing most of the time with a kayak. It's too shallow, rock filled, and choked with downed trees. I'd wreck the pedal drive in no time flat. I do like the options you get with a hobie so I'm looking at what other craft has those...

Anything around 4 cents a hook is in the ballpark. Lots of suppliers have that price. I get mine from Barlows Tackle.

making my own jigs, trapping and keeping my own minnows

Tip the paint jar upside down and then right side up. This will "Fluff" the paint. The jigs should easily dip into the paint. If you are pushing and swirling the jig around in the paint, you will get clumps of paint which isn't what you want. Immediately after you dip the jig, hold the jig...

making my own jigs, trapping and keeping my own minnows

Not hot enough right out of the mold. The lead cools almost instantly at the start, which is nice because you can get them out of the mold really quick. The longer you leave them in the mold the hotter the mold gets and then you get problems like leak though or layering. Leak through is what...

making my own jigs, trapping and keeping my own minnows

The thread is titled "DIY jig painting". If you are pouring your own jigs, make sure you have a good cutter to trim off the excess lead. You can get some very interesting shapes if you don't get it all off. Also, if you goof up with a pour, don't sweat it, just hold the jig by the hook with a...

    Smelt Rigs for Spring/Summer pike

Circle hook buried in the middle of the smelt fished right on the bottom. I put about a 4 inch piece of wood kabob stick down the spine of the smelt to help keep it on when I cast. Then I like to tie on a piece of engineering tape to the line as an indicator and crack a cold one.
