I used some old Desert Storm cammie netting that I acquired, works really nice and is still in good shape after 3 years. Burlap lasted a year and was shot, squirrels tore it up. They haven't messed with the cammie netting yet, as I was seeding wheat the other day I drove by a few of the stands on my land and they still look fine.

Let me know what you decide on as my 12 year old is ready to venture out on his own this year, I got spoiled hunting with him in our mobile castle! Gen 2 is in the works after I'm done seeding, going to make one that you can lower with cables and pulleys, gets kind of hairy pulling that thing around badger holes and sprayer ruts.

do you set this up and let it sit for the season, or pull it to different spots through out the season. I always thought you would need to leave it to prevent deer suspicion?

I'd look into stands from Rivers Edge. I picked up a single one at home of economy a couple years ago and it is very sturdy and most importantly has a very comfy seat that so far has stood the test of time and doesn't appear to be one that squirrels will chew on. When I bought it, they had a double one next to it that I never got around to getting back and buying, however if I saw one anywhere I'd most definitely buy it. If i remember right, they were priced pretty reasonable too, mine came with a bar for a rifle rest, I just didn't put it on the stand.

My boy got his first bow deer out of a double stand last year. I'd much rather be in a tree than on the ground.

I guess reading back, Ghost has the link to the rivers edge ones. Get the "Relax" model, that is a very comfy seat, no ass-numb for hours, could easily nap in it and like I said, no need to drag cushions in and out with that seat. I've left mine in the woods now for two years and there is no sign of chewing/wear on the seat material whereas I've had other types of seats chewed to hell from squirrls.

Hell no, the deer don't seem to mind except when you pull it with a pickup. I moved it twice with a tractor and shot a buck the same day I moved it the first time and it sat about 3 days before another buck was shot out of it when I moved it after we combined the field that we set it up on. One thing i never do is bait with it or put it where the deer want to be, travel routes were far more successful with a few sprays of buck bomb to get them to mill around for a minute or so. I keep a few trail cameras on the uprights to know what's walking by and there were a few bucks that seemed to come to it and rub their antlers on it, we zip tied some licking branches to it and there were scrapes around it all fall. I only use a tractor to check all of my cameras or have accidents with a gravity box and the deer could care less, different story with anything gas. I tried one of those quiet cats and they are the real deal but that diesel sound seems to put them at ease.

I have had squirrels chew up the arm rest pads (not important) but so far not the seat.
