Counter-argument

Good read, I'm optimistic about the future generally. AI will allow people who are ambitious and motivated to do things never before possible. Many are predicting a single employee billion dollar company within the next few years, some expect it this year... I'm not cutting edge by any means, but I do use paid versions of multiple AIs on a daily basis. That said, I think he's being overly optimistic. None of his examples are even close in scale to what AI will likely do in the next year or two.

AI is great for me. I do a lot of writing and have to look at a lot of Century Code. When I write something, I use AI to proofread my work and check references then I go back and make corrections. Saves a lot of time. Also was great on recent trip to Italy. If I wanted to get more information about something, I just point my camera at it and ask questions about it.

I don't think AI is going to eliminate all jobs, in fact IMO there will be LOTS of jobs completing tasks AI identifies and also managing the scope AI manipulates, assesses, is involved with business units.

Computers did, have, and will continue to displace humans in some jobs, and create other jobs as well. Computers were supposed to reduce/eliminate "paperwork and admin tasks" and make jobs easier. Ask a 15-20yr+ experienced nurse of any discipline of medicine if automation/computerization has freed up time for them to spend on patient care.

The US is currently as computerized and robotized as it's ever been and unemployment hovers just over 4%. It's been a long while since I took an Econ. class, but IIRC, ~4% unemployment is considered "Full Employment" in the US.

Yes, there's very assuredly big fast changes coming. I believe the adaptable and motivated folks will continue to have fulfilling jobs they want to do and will be paid enough for the standard of living they realistically aspire to.

everyone knows 4% is a bogus number, there are literally millions who have quit trying to find jobs, who are 100% employable, but are not counted in that stat, for political reasons. Real unemployment in the US is likely closer to 15% IMO. My guess is it will be closer to 30% by 2030. I dont think anyone said AI is going to eliminate ALL jobs, but it will eliminate A LOT of jobs, especially for the 80% or so of the workforce who are low productivity. The go getters and highly motivated people will likely switch from what they are currently doing to managing and evaluating the output from ai agents, and then many of the hands on / labor jobs will stick around for another decade or two Im guessing.

With robots ,there is going to be a learning curve. AI will improve but for now, I don't think they can figure things out on thier own ,they need to be trained for every detail.

An example is like Walmart, target and the big players, it might be easier to clone stores/factories than train the robots to stock shelves at each store. The more repetition the job the job is , the easier and faster to train and what each robot learns every day can be cloned to any or all robots. I'm guessing you will have to pay big for upgrades. What's going to happen if AI gets hacked or disabled and all the robots quit?

or even more fun, attack the shoppers! Likely the robots will be running their own AI and only need to connect for updates or instructions from a coordination source, that is giving them overall tasks, which they then need to figure out how to accomplish on their own, etc, its hard to know for sure tho.
