25 years ago, my son & I were on an Alaskan moose hunt, on a isolated mountain plateau in the middle of no-where, without any communication to the rest of the world. Our drop-in pilot was to check on us by noon with a fly-over or landing.
NO PLANE! If fact, no plane for 3 more days. We had no idea what was happening & thought we might have been left for good..no food left & very little water.
Finally, day 4 he shows up to tell us this far-fetched story of a planes into the Towers story, etc, and tells us no private planes were allowed to fly US airspace cuz of the attack! WOW!!
We were very glad to see him, & get flown back to base camp, shower, & fed a good meal! Quite the experience!!

Wow, that is a crazy... Sure glad we have inreach devices now for these type of situations to communicate via satellite.

Made the trip to New York City in 2019 for our 30th anniversary. The hotel we stayed at was a Marriott 1.5 blocks south of ground zero. When we checked in, I asked the older lady if this building was standing on September 11th. She stopped typing, paused, then looked at me and said Yes with a sadness that was indescribable. The reflecting pools and etched names were hard, but the museum under the pools was damn near impossible. You can walk under the pools and that area has pictures of the victims from that tower and recorded voices of family members reading their names. I made it about 20 feet in and had to turn around. Everyone has been to a cemetery. It's a somber experience. Only a handful of cemeteries in the US contain the remains of thousands all killed on the same day. This is the only one where those killed were completely and utterly defenseless civilians, many of whom are interred on site in a special section only family has access to. Make the trip if you can.

I got goose bumps watching it today on the new this morning, when it happened I was younger and was so pissed at the enemy that I didn't take as much account to the victims. If you have a wasp nest by your front door what should you do ?

Wife was preggers with my daughter when the planes hit…..

I sat outside the Marine recruiting office for most of a day contemplating my life. I watched many young AND older men and women walking in. I felt trapped.

When I got home my wife asked me, “You did it didn’t you!”

It was and one of the hardest decisions I ever made. I wanted back in with my old unit so bad it hurt!!!

I told her, “No, I’m not going anywhere honey”. We both started crying….for exactly opposite reasons.

I was in SD working with no radio, my boss came driving up and told me to come up to his pickup. He told me to listen to the radio, we were shocked at what was going on.
That made me think about reenlisting and going over seas to get revenge for our country. But my wife and boys also needed me, it was a hard decision to not reenlist.
82nd airborne division was my home.

3/5 for me man. I lost some friends in that war and wasn’t there. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to forgive myself.

I’d like to hope we made the right decision.

I will climb 1st Sargent’s hill and pay my respects before I die! I just haven’t gotten the balls to do it yet.
