I think these farmers will discover that wetlands are valuable to them. I would much rather spend money on conservation than support prices for grain. I think it's much more of a win win. The money we spend on flood damage is better spent on flood prevention. It turns an expense onto an investment.

The first article featured Denny Ova. If that is the same Dennis Ova I know, he used to raise farmed elk. Elk ranchers are very wildlife and conservation minded.

If most of these wetlands were drained to allow for planting crops what percentage of them would actually allow the crops to grow and flourish? Sometimes I see those wet areas are very poorly growing maybe because of alkaline soils?
