anchors and winches...

looking at the minn kota deckhand and a richter anchor for a 20' toon...

any knowledge on either would be much appreciated...

I have had the Minnesota Kota deck hand since 2003. It's hard to believe such a small motor even geared down pulls as much as it does. One day at Devils Lake I went to shore to do some jigging along some rocks. I pulled the anchor out and dropped it between two rocks maybe 75 lb each. Then I went and snagged up the rope. I had my back turned and thought I would stop when I heard the winch working hard. It pulled through the weight of both rocks and I had a hard time pushing the boat back in. I was impressed. I bought my current boat in 2003 , but I just remembered I also had it on my old boat. I'll bet it's close to or 20 years old and still working.
I have an 18 pound anchor on it.

Consider two anchors as the swing in the boat from only one anchor can cause some issues sometimes. Additionally, two 12 lb anchors might hold better than one 20 lber and they're easier to handle. One off each front corner facing into the wind has been a real effective method of holding in one spot as the one in front and one in back exposes the broadside of the toon to the wind and waves requiring bigger stuff.
