These greasy cheeseheads really know no limit when it comes to raping another state's natural resources

State wildlife enforcement officers, acting on several tips received earlier this summer, arrested 25 fishermen suspected of poaching hundreds of walleye from Lake Erie, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said Monday.

The fishermen – 24 from Wisconsin and one from Ohio – were later convicted of misdemeanor crimes in Ottawa County Municipal Court, and ordered to pay $1,472 in fines and $1,856 in court costs. The tipsters told ODNR Division of Wildlife officers that the group of anglers was far exceeding their daily bag limit of walleye, which was four per fisherman prior to April 30, and six per fisherman after May 1. The fish must be at least 15 inches long.

When state wildlife officers and investigators contacted the suspects in May, they found more than 500 pounds of walleye cut into chunks in an attempt to disguise how many fish had been kept, the ODNR said. Ohio law states that fillets must be kept whole until the anglers reach their permanent residences, or until the fish are prepared for immediate consumption. The fishermen were charged with possession of cut fillets and for keeping more than the limit of walleye.

The officers seized the walleye and donated it to the Erie County Care Facility, the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, and the Luther Home of Mercy in Ottawa County. "This project was a success because concerned citizens took the time and made the effort to notify state wildlife officers," the ODNR said in a prepared statement. "The willingness of law-abiding citizens to provide information concerning illegal taking of wildlife is necessary for officers to effectively enforce wildlife laws."

The Division of Wildlife encourages anyone who is aware of a possible violation of wildlife laws to call the Turn In a Poacher line at 800-POACHER (800-762-2437) or to submit information online at wildohio.gov. All information will remain confidential.

Seriously to me $1,472 is not even close to enough for this type of bull shit. Need to make examples of these ass hats. $5,000 each sounds more reasonable to me.

Ah yes, another 'sterotype an entire state based on some dinkheads' thread. There's plenty of bad apples in ND, too.

Do these people keep that many fish to sell it or what? As in most of these cases, that's a ridiculous amount of fish to have in the freezer, must think it'll be the last time they'll ever get to have fish so they need to stock up as much as possible. Idiots.

It says there were 25 fisherman so that 20lbs each. Once you factor in that the limit was either 4-6 fish and it was Lake Erie. That's probably 1 or 2 fish over each individual's limit.

Yes they are idiots. No arguing with that.

That was my first thought, until I read the first paragraph and it said they poached hundreds of fish. Spose they cut them up so much it'd be impossible to tell just how many fish they were actually over their limit by. Cutting them up tells me they had a lot of small fish, but still tough to prove how many. Get a slimy lawyer for that and they may end up with less of a fine than handed out.
If a few of them happen to speak the language with all the symbols and slants like some of the new topics, they may get off entirely. Be interesting to see how it plays out. Idiots.

So why when there is a poaching case in either nd or sd seems a sconie is always involved

kurtr, the sconis no longer have what we call good walleye lakes as the tribes have pillaged all lakes through central wisc for walleyes for years(trible ceded territory) lakes that were once deemed stellar walleye lakes now have a 1 or 2 walleye daily limit and a small slot much like we see here on mille lacs lake in Mn except our lake is shut down completely,so you'll have plenty of this poaching in states with liberal fishing regs and a healthy walleye population

Since I have watched my fair share of warden shows on TV, I am thinking they seized all of the fish. They don't just take the "extras". So when they say they found and seized 500lbs, I am thinking that is the total weight of fish caught.

No kidding, I hope that fine was per guy and not total. Even so for what a guy can get per pound of walleye these days with Canada commercial supplies struggling as well that could be a good days work. After all those reports it seems were called in imagine how many they got away with before they decided to bust them.

These guys were caught with literally around 2 fish each! Only crime the vast majority were ticked for was cutting up the fillets before they got home. Story is either missing some key details about other trips or is much to do about nothing.
