I pull to the side and have mrs johnr hop out and wipe it off. She is pretty quick at it. If its slippery too, I make sure to tell her to watch her step...haha

I am sure that tiny little lens would be difficult to build a wiper for.

Wonder if a couple coats of rain-x would help.
Dont think so. most of the stuff on my cam is more mud/dust from gravel. i dont think rain-x would help there. but a washer sprayer on it would be cool

I think a combo of Rain-X and a washer would work well.

I actually hired a Smurf for this task. He lives in my tailgate. My wife says I am slave driver, but I pay him a fair wage.

Ill be bending the ring on her knobby noggin if she gives me any lip...haha. kidding, spousal abuse is not a laughing matter, nor do I condone it. The joke was bad, and I give myself a negative rep.

I kid about this stuff, cause anyone that knows me, knows she had it coming...kidding again. I treat her like the queen she is, unless she isn't.:;:howdy

This is how I imagine johnr's house is run.

He's talking big smack all the time and - at most - it's pretty much entertainment to the inhabitants.

Yep…and right after you pull over she gives you that look, you know the “oh, hell no” look. You get out wipe the camera and proceed to sleep on the couch the rest of the week… ;)

I think she just rolls her eyes and says "nope - your turn sweetheart". And the kids laugh at Dad cuz Dad's always clowning around like that.

Which causes Dad, the sad clown, to drink.

It's the American Dream.

haha, awesome.

My favorite response at the camp ground when a buddy is setting something up, or working on something is to offer help, and when they say yes I would love some help, I yell "Woman get over here, Jimmy needs some help". it gets everyone laughing, and me the sad clown even drunker...haha:;:howdy

Surprisingly when I offer a round of beers out of the cooler to everyone, mrs johnr always gets up and passes the rounds out. She is motherly with me, and turns out I am her favorite.

Seriously though, could a little cover be rigged on the camera that would flip up when you hit a button/switch and then be closed up after you're done backing up? The cover could be built water and dust tight and maybe even have a clear lid so that you wouldn't have to open it unless it got covered with dirt. Might be a dumb suggestion because I don't know where the backup cameras on vehicles are located. I mounted after market backup cameras on my pickup and suburban but I have a topper on the pickup and a flip up endgate on the 'burbon so I mounted the cameras on the inside of the flip up windows and just open the windows when I need to back up. I only use the cameras for hooking up to the boat and other trailers and the cameras are adjusted to look down at the receiver and tongue of the trailer. Saves unbelievable aggravation and I hit a perfect line to the hitch first shot at least 90% of the time.

Ponyroper for backup to hitch and such I have a wireless with magnetic base. It has a 300 ft range. I run it full time in the back of my 5th wheel when I go to Arizona. Get an idiot behind you and you can hit one button for a photo, or the lower button for a 1/2 hour video. Very good when you need to hitch the boat behind a 37 foot 5th wheel.

Exactly. Nature has shown us the design. It's called an eyelid.

Nah, we just need to get a monkey and train it to clean the camera. if you get a trunk monkey and train it for this purpose - double win!
