I use 3 Oz all the time. Tis the only way to get to, stay on and feel the bottom in 20+ feet of water doing 1.8mph+ without letting out 125 ft of line. Then the "feel " part goes right out the window. Regularly out fish smaller presentations and I assume it's cause I have my bait in front of their face a higher % of the time. And also just cause I am pretty much awesome.

Also... they do make 2.5 Oz bottom bouncers. I've got half a dozen of them in the boat.

I used to make fun of those 2-3 oz bottom bouncers. In fact I labeled the slot on my bottom bouncer holder "Linton Specials" for the 2 oz.walkers. But when you see the limits coming in from using those heavy walkers you may change your mind. I use them a bunch when its windy it 20 plus feet of water.

We were jigging last Monday in 45 feet of water and had no problem hitting the bottom with .5 oz. jigs. No wind.

2 oz sinker on a three way swivel gets 'em out of the tailrace too. Pulls 13 floaters right down... 18-22 FOW depending on the time of night.

Probably 15 FOW right now...

I've also used em doing about 3 mph in 8 feet of water right along rip rap and we filled a 4 man limit in an hour right in the prop wash.

it's awesome to have someone do something seemingly "unsophisticated" and they get the crap bit out of their presentation

I "guide" for kids (camps) sometimes in the summers and boom, out of nowhere some kid is doing something ridiculous and game-on, we hammer fish and a goofy pattern

example: we caught the crap out of some decent crappie in 4-5 FOW in the heat of July fishing the smallest clown colored husky jerks they make - water so clear we could see the crappies trailing the baits.

I had tied one on for "junior" to catch some LM bass on when ding-a-ling the crappies came out and were slurping up those huskies

Lotsa fun, that. Crappies snap up on some strange lures, to be sure. Small Barbie rippers work well in spring, in Lake Nelson. Got 5 fish in 7 casts this past spring.

Taking Wags fishing doesn't count as guiding for a kids camp. No doubt it's probably a ton of work, but it still doesn't count. :D

ha ha ha - actually when I go with wags it's like he's taking grandpa fishing

he has to listen to stories about the good old days, how much the wind, sun, liberals, mosquitoes, etc. are pissing grandpa off

I think he sleeps well after a day on the water with Captain Bitterman

That was uncalled for. I apologize to all the ewoks of the world. But, they are clearly better Fisher people than us human folk.

wife says she cant feel the bottom -- fishing 40fow this fall. She felt the bottom - lost the only one i had - she caught 10X to my 1 on the 3 oz. Hence the quest for 3 oz -- and they dont sell 2 1/2s. I am always thinking finesse --- but after seeing her put on a clinic. I also looked for info on the web and see alot of pros say all you need is a 1 2 and 3 oz. depending on depth. They all pointed to over 30foot use a 3 oz. So i guess her clinic made sense.

Ever tried to tie a couple together to make a 3 oz. in a pinch. I've got up to 3 oz on hand and even 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 ounce mini downrigger balls. ALL purchased at Dakota Tackle in Bismarck.

Recall pulling 3 oz bouncers on 12 foot rods with meat and spinners at the state line prefishing a PWT tourney with one of the pros. That's why they are in my arsenal. They work.

another advantage to using 3 oz is being able to fish right below the boat and being able to see your rig and the fish on your sonar at the same time. For those times when they suspend alittle bit off of the lake floor. You can see that your fishing exactly at the same depth as the fish.

Didn't know they even came that big.

I spend a lot of time in a boat fishing, but am no expert. I am an expert at pissing folks off though.

I have compared both sites and found interesting the stores basically sell the same products minus store brands. Few exceptions would be no vexilar at BPS or clam. Mergers between a private and a corporate company only allows more foreign made products less competition especially if they sell the same products already. I just hope this merger will have little effect on the smaller sporting goods stores in smaller communities.
