Was fishing north of wing today and the lake I was on the ice varied drastically from spot to spot. First spot was 18 inches second spot 200 yards away was only 9!!! The warm weather didn't appear to have damaged the ice much so this looks to be just random variations in the ice caused by the snowpack most likely.
To top off a slow day my buddy texted that he fell through only a few yards out from the casinos ramp down on oahe on foot. Luckily for him it was mainly only one leg to start with so he had time to lay flat before his other leg busted all the way through. Turns out that spot the ice was only 3 to 5 inches. Would guess the current undermined the ice there. So like I was saying be on your guard especially driving!
