Anyone ever torn their bicep (long head), and if so did you get it surgically repaired or did you just leave it? I tore mine from the shoulder last Thursday, and the sound of it tearing was just gruesome. Sounded like when you stand on a pheasant's wings and pull up on the feet...that sound of cartilage/muscle ripping apart. The pain is actually tolerable. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon to discuss my options. I've been doing some research and it sounds like a lot of people just leave it and let it heal naturally knowing they won't have full strength in that arm anymore and that you will always have the "popeye" arm. I'm leaning towards the surgery.

I did similiar tear 20 years ago and have never messed with it. The 2 docs i talke to tald me ro live with it as long as i can. Once they operate he couldnt guarantee that it would be better. Pain is off and on and minimal. Youll be surprised at how the muscles work together and where the pain will move. Mine aaffects my neck more then anything. Good luck on your decision.

I tore my right bicep right down the middle from elbow to shoulder and had it repaired, it worked well and was mostly pain free. About 10 years later I tore it across about midway from elbow and shoulder, I have not had that one repaired and just suck it up and live with it.

My advice is depending on your age as I've tried both options, best of luck to you.

I'll be 44 next month, so not exactly a spring chicken anymore...but not ready to be put out to pasture yet.

tore my rotary cup.
On doctor took me not to fix as i may not last the surgery (?????).
Another said to do it and did it with cameras so only a couple of small cuts. Young doctor versus old doctor.
No regrets to getting it fix, said a lot of pain but i did not have that.
Important to do the phyical workouts afterwards to get it to heal rights so make sure you do that.
all this in my 60s.
for me i would get it fixed based on my experience. db

Would be a shame not to be able to use that arm when your 88. 44 is still relatively young. You'll still heal up rather well. Just imagine all the time spent on a stair climber since you can't do curls for an hour.

Lol..If I'm going to live to be 88 I'm gonna need a new crowd to run with.
I don't need anymore time on the stair master, it's already a love/hate relationship. I keep hoping the sweat that drips off me will fry it out.

Have a cousin that tore his bicep twice and had it fixed both times. The one thing he said that stuck with me was to NOT rush the recovery. He didn't follow the therapists advice and it took almost 18 months to get his first tear back up to snuff. He listened the second time and 6 months later he was back up. Best I can do for you. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and hope by spring you can set the hook on the ole marbleeyes.

I'm 70 and just had rotator cuff done six weeks ago. It's going good. Now I have to heel fast enough to get both knees replaced before summer. One doctor told me at my age it would take to big of a bite out of the remainder of my life. I found another doctor.

I am 70 and just had my hip replaced about 6 weeks ago. Feel great, now I wish I would of had it done 5 years ago instead of putting up with the pain.
