Bored at work and thought I’d share a pic of my biggest walleye from my first year in ND. My buddy bailed on me the night before so Idid a solo trip to Van Hook. I hate loading/unloading alone and holding up abusy ramp but a nice lady jumped out of her husband’s truck and offer to park mine while I moved the boat out of the way. After a relatively slow day I pulledthis one in. Was quite a shit showtrying to net it myself but I eventually did. I knew it was a dandy and wantedto get a quick pic and release. I need some phone timer picture taking work. I measured it at 27.5 and was about to toss itback when I saw the tag on its back. My first tagged fish ever so I figured I’mdoing the right thing letting a big spawner go and kept the tag as my trophy. Icalled it in and got the info back. Turns out it was a big old male. Tagged 12years ago in White Earth Bay.

That’s pretty cool to see that back tagged fish are still out there. Haven’t heard of one caught in awhile.

I've never even seen one tagged in the back. Have caught a few tagged in the jaw.. Nice fish. Taking pictures by yourself is not easy, especially with wet shaking fingers.

I caught an 8.5lb walleye with a back tag on Ashtabula back in 06 I think? Only one I’ve ever got. No monsters for me this year biggest was a 23.5 inch from the river

Cool story. Fish has to be pretty old. 19 inch long male 12 years ago. 16 years? Maybe more.

Thanks! We made a few trips Down to your neck of the woods this summer meeting some friends we used to be stationed with in Mobridge. We had a blast! Planning another for memorial weekend.
