Lost a good amount of water pressure this morning. Looks like the NW side of town is affected due to a restriction. Sounds like the Ash Coulee water tower has low reserves. Doesn't make sense to me since the river is high as heck. I'm sure someone much smarter than me has an answer.

Affect anyone else this morning?

[h=3]Voluntary Water Use Restrictions in Effect Immediately for Northwest Bismarck[/h]Residents residing in northwest Bismarck and customers of the South Central Regional Water District served by the City of Bismarck in the area north of Century Avenue and west of State Street are asked to refrain from using water for anything but essential purposes until further notice.
Residents located in northwest Bismarck are currently experiencing low water pressure and potential areas without water service. This is due to low water reservoir levels in the Ash Coulee water tower.
The City asks residents and businesses north of Century Avenue and west of State Street to use water only for essential purposes and to specifically discontinue lawn watering until further notice.
Updates and more information will be provided as water reservoir levels are returned to normal.
We ask for your cooperation and patience as we work to resolve the matter.

I was gone for the weekend and when I came home last night I noticed pretty low pressure. This morning it was even worse, probably only about 30%. It does seem to be pretty good again now though. Just think how much NW Bismarck has grown since that tower was built, this is the first time I've noticed pressure loss in the 7.5 years I've lived up here though.

Everybody and their brother has been dumping massive amounts of water on their lawns this week. I didn't notice it this year, but in years past when the run off gets high the water takes more to clean and tastes like shit. I'm just thinking out loud.

Depends what they are doing. If they are watering for a long period of time trying to get the water in the soil, then yes, I agree with you. If they are only watering for a few minutes with the idea to cool the grass, that is what is called syringing and it can be a great tool to use to keep your grass alive during the hot period of the day. Helps reduce stress on the grass.

"Syringing is a very light application of water to wet the leaves of the grass but not necessarily to get water down into the soil. Usually syringing is done during the hot part of the day to cool the turf and reduce heat stress. There are three situations in which syringing might be considered on home lawns. The first is if the turf is infested with one of the patch diseases. Daily syringing during high temperatures can reduce the severity of damage considerably. The second situation is if the lawn is newly seeded. Germinating seedlings have minimal root systems and can easily die from water stress. Light, frequent waterings are necessary until the plants are established and have developed adequate root systems. Syringing during hot temperatures will help keep the seedlings cool and moist. The third situation is when an established turf is showing stress on a hot day but cannot be watered adequately until later" https://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/lawns/watering-lawns/

While all you Europhiles are channeling your inner King Charles, I'll be embracing my American roots and going full blown native prairie. Until the city comes and mows it for me that is. I'm getting older, but not old enough yet to obsess about a brown lawn when we're on the verge of a drought.

"The American obsession with a close-cut patch of green has its roots in 17th-century Europe. Castles in France and England at the time were guarded by men whose vision couldn’t be obstructed by wild shrubbery in case anybody decided to lay siege, so grazing animals were used to trim unruly vegetation. Since these castles belonged to the wealthiest landowners, a smooth property became a status symbol, and that mentality has carried over into the modern-day American suburb. All that time you spend mowing and raking and weeding? Blame it on the landscape lust of some disenfranchised peasants."

It would be interesting to see how much water and money is spent just to have a green lawn for 5-6 months in a year. I'm thinking of going with the Brady Bunch lawn system, but in a quandary if I should roll it up in the late fall or not. :)

I water in the middle of the night. Nobody will ever be able to tell.

Umm, how come your lawn is the only green one within 30 clicks?

The REAL question is: Is this drought going to be tough on my fledgling vole population? I don't want to stress my little buddies...

the neighbor behind me, and higher than me, waters like its free. The front yard is green only because of a healthy variation of crab/quack grass and dandelions.

Oh how I wish I could do this. The water table is probably only down 8 ft where I live, but...

Honestly, it's too bad that we can't get non-potable water for sprinkling and washing vehicles. Too bad that the water we use for those purposes, goes right back down the storm drain and into the ground.

The river in Bismarck, is as high as I can remember it, since 2011 and the summer-long flood. Still nearly 6 ft below flood stage however.

The output at the tailrace dipped all the way down to 34,500 cfs on 6-2. Still way higher than normal.
