Yeah dont have property but do imagine the bark stripping that can take place. Most bucks make rubs neer trails going to or coming from feeding areas. Its not usually going to kill a tree but saplings maybe like trashed to the ground. This post is not informative at all BTW.The only good thing about hybrid poplars is to plant them with the express purpose of hinge cutting them to create low browse, a dense packed wind break, to create an impenetrable wall of trees to keep trespassers out, or to funnel deer to where you want them to go. IM humble O of course.
That is some spicy peanut butter you are makingDeer like "new" things in thier diet. We have 200 acres of solid timber that carries a lot of deer year around but they come in the yard and eat garden and trees. Iv'e gotten over it and have learned to expect it. 3-D electric fences with a 30 plus mile fencer and peanut butter on the wires is the only thing I've found that works.
Actually it was in a study about 3-D fencing that some University did on how to keep deer out of gardens. It was suggested that 3-D fence worked the best and to put a little peanut butter on the wires. I wish I would have had cameras up but judging by the tracks they made a quick about face and most likely never tried that again. I'm guessing a zap to the wet nose is a pretty good one with a 30 mile fencer. That is some spicy peanut butter you are making
That was one question I had was did you have any cameras on video. Instead of planting a tree - maybe just stick in a few old cedar fence posts to occupy some of the deer rub activity - can even add a flagpole holder and rope to make a scrape/rub combo - just a thought.
