Alright, please bear with me. I'm looking to buy a handgun. I already have a couple, and have a permit to carry concealed. I understand the laws in that regard.

Was recently given a $250 Cabela's gift card, and would like to use the money to pay for a portion of a handgun, but live in Bismarck and the only Cabela's that I regularly go by, is Rogers, MN.

I read somewhere that you have to take possession of a handgun in the state in which you live. Is this the case? What's a guy do when he wishes to purchase a gun from out of state?

Per our discussion while shorefishing, I will hand over a crisp $10 bill for that gift card.

I think you need to get it sent to a FFL in ND to get the transfer done, so you buy from cabelas they send to FFL of your choice then you pay to have the FFL done and take ownership.

What is this FFL that I hear about?

The same handgun is the same price at Scheels in Bismarck, and I'd gladly just buy it locally, but I was given a $250 gift card for Cabelas. On a separate thread, I'm hearing that Bass Pro Shops just purchased Cabela's. Hopefully that doesn't monkey-wrench anything...

Dirtymike, you'll notice that I'm completely ignoring your offer of $10. Nope. Not gonna...

my suggestion is: go to mandan sporting goods and buy the gun you want, then spend that cabelas money on something other than a gun so you don't have to pay the extra cost for the FFL transfer, Federal Firearms License, aka person who is registered with the atf to legally transfer and sell guns, any business that sells guns new or used has an FFL

Who is going to pay face value for a gift card? Sell gift card for $25.00 ( 10% savings to buyer ) off face value and buy the gun at scheels in the end without the ffl transfer fee the gun costs the same. I recall a guy on another site trying to sell gift cards for face value and that did not turn out well for him..

no one is going to buy a gift card at face value... a guy at work tried to sell one too and he was made fun of and still has his gift card because everyone said no and now they won't even pay 50% because he was so greedy

If I was planning on making a purchase at Cabelas I would have no problem paying ole JK face value for said card.

Black Friday will be here soon. Buy gun now in Bismarck or online, before Hillary is elected, save card for Cabelas Black Friday deals.

You're welcome.

I just checked into this same situation last weekend. Cabelas had M&P Shield on sale. Went in the East Grand Forks,MN store. I have a conceal carry permit. They said they ship gun at a cost of $35 to whomever you choose to use for the transfer (FFL), which is a minimum of another $20. I ended up taking a picture of their sale price and going back to Scheels where they happily matched the price. Took gun home with me that day. Didn't have to pay additional $'s and headache of shipping and paperwork.

I recall that poor slob getting practically rode out of town, for trying to sell a Cabela's card for face value. As a matter of fact, Dirtymike and I had a chuckle about it.

I have zero problem buying a gun at Scheels, they've been good to me. I just have $250 cabela's funny money. If I could get $225 for it, and skip the $35 shipping...

Or, I'm going to go right by the one in Rogers, at Thanksgiving, I could go do whatever paperwork I have to do in advance, and just have them ship the gun here.

I just wasn't sure what hoops I'd have to jump through, when it came time to actually take possession of the gun.

So, with Christmas right around the corner, are you shopping at Cabelas? Cuz if so...

LOL. I already know what people think of buying gift cards.
