Canada Bear

I think I started a thread on this a while back?? Can't find it. Anyway still want to research more and prepare for another black bear hunt in Canada...soon. Next spring? Any recommendations? We originally booked with southshorelodge in Manitoba but got cancelled due to covid. That outfitter actually even gave our deposits back. So certainly theyre an option but their site hasn't been updated in years. Not sure theyre still alive? Open to lots of provinces. Easier to go to Manitoba but have researched Alberta may be best location. Double the drive though from northeastern SD. Any other recommendations? thanks

I would highly recommend trophy north outfitters in Alberta. Haven't been on a bear hunt (others on this site have) with them but if the bear hunting is anything like the moose hunts it will be good time. Kevin is a great guy. Only unfortunate thing for you is the distance, it was a 20-hour drive from Mandan.

I have been to Harrop Lake Lodge a couple of times for moose and it was a great hunt both times. Bears are more their specialty, especially spring bear hunts, and fishing. The facility is great, fishing is outstanding, and from what I have heard from others the bear hunting is also exceptional. I was their both when Jackson Lodge ran it (https://jacksonslodge.com/) and after it was bought by Cory and became its own standalone lodge (https://harroplake.com/). Jackson was a very good outfitter and still flies the people in for Harrop. I would check out both from my experience on customer service, scenery, facilities, and overall experience - albeit not for bears, but they do a lot of bear hunts.

It is a fairly short drive from ND to Lac du Bonnet east of Winnipeg, which is a nice bonus.

I know a guy that went yo Sandy River Outfitters this spring and said he had a blast, lots of bears. He booked for next year before he left this spring

If you crave adventure, pick a remote area, if just killing a bear is the goal, pick an area right where the ag hits the forest.
Can't give personal recommendations as it's been years since I've been there and I'm sure the guys I went with are dead. Lol.

There are outfitters in northern Minnesota that will guide you to bear, over bait piles.
My buddy just shot a huge black bear, you don't need to go to Canadastan to shoot a bear over a bait pile

I killed a bear in MN about 12 yrs ago. Had a blast but looking for a place with larger bears. But open to MN again if there’s an outfitter that averages bigger bears?
