esp...per the head vet at the UofM in st paul the lyme vaccine for canine's only works on 5% of the animals and is a two year ordeal and takes a toll on the animals liver and kidney's on smaller pups.
My boy was in fected @ 1year had symptoms as stated above.doxcycline is the save all for our pups and most often humans,he was reinfected this spring caught it early and back on meds for 30days doxi is a clean drug/antibotic so no worries. In order to check how serious it is they have a specfic blood test that relays how strong the bactria is in your body by numbers,0-30 is considered okay as lyme will alway be in your body/canine 30 to 50 is a concern, over 50 your on meds,my pup was 119 this spring, bad deal but fine now,I'll do another blood test next month and always have doxi on hand when signs show up which usually starts with loss of appitite at 1st then he gets lame, can't jump into the truck and such.
Lyme effects human;s differently,co-worker had it twice in two years,he swelled up like a balloon both times,in the icu both times, another guy had the bad headaches, sore muscel/joints and shakes so bad we thought he wouldn't make it
