Has anyone on this site been diagnosed or know anyone who had been treated for chronic Lyme disease. Please let me know your experience. Symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated. I'm extremely curious with the neurological signs and symptoms.

I cant comment on humans, but my dog has suffered with it his entire life. I got him around age 1, and after a couple weeks, he couldnt walk up or down stairs, couldnt eat, and wouldnt even move his head. We have to take him to the vet at the first sign (usually when he acts lethargic) and they give him an antibiotic. Within 2 days, he's good as new. I know this may not help with what you are asking about, but Im assuming the symptoms with a human affected are about the same.

If you even suspect that you have it get checked out now. Lyme's disease WILL ruin your quality of life forever.

This is from the CDC website:

[h=3]What is "chronic Lyme disease?" collapsed[/h]Lyme disease is an infection caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. In the majority of cases, it is successfully treated with oral antibiotics. Physicians sometimes describe patients who have non-specific symptoms (like fatigue, pain, and joint and muscle aches) after the treatment of Lyme disease as having post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS) or post Lyme disease syndrome (PLDS).
The term “chronic Lyme disease” (CLD) has been used to describe people with different illnesses. While the term is sometimes used to describe illness in patients with Lyme disease, in many occasions it has been used to describe symptoms in people who have no evidence of a current or past infection with B. burgdorferi (Marques, 2008). Because of the confusion in how the term CLD is employed, experts in this field do not support its use (Feder et al., 2007).
For more information, see the National Institutes of Health — “Chronic Lyme Disease”.

I recognize this is a controversial topic, as many people feel they have chronic Lyme disease and will find doctors who tell them that they do. Some of these people have somatization disorders and giving them a diagnosis of chronic Lyme disease is a barrier to getting better. By no means am I saying this is true of you. If you suspect chronic Lyme disease, I encourage you to discuss it with an Infectious Disease specialist rather than one of the doctors who has made a niche for himself in giving people this diagnosis.

Agree with sparetire. There is a very specific testing protocol for Lyme disease (need several different types of positive tests for true diagnosis). If it were me I'd see an infectious disease specialist if I suspected this condition. Good luck

esp...per the head vet at the UofM in st paul the lyme vaccine for canine's only works on 5% of the animals and is a two year ordeal and takes a toll on the animals liver and kidney's on smaller pups.

My boy was in fected @ 1year had symptoms as stated above.doxcycline is the save all for our pups and most often humans,he was reinfected this spring caught it early and back on meds for 30days doxi is a clean drug/antibotic so no worries. In order to check how serious it is they have a specfic blood test that relays how strong the bactria is in your body by numbers,0-30 is considered okay as lyme will alway be in your body/canine 30 to 50 is a concern, over 50 your on meds,my pup was 119 this spring, bad deal but fine now,I'll do another blood test next month and always have doxi on hand when signs show up which usually starts with loss of appitite at 1st then he gets lame, can't jump into the truck and such.

Lyme effects human;s differently,co-worker had it twice in two years,he swelled up like a balloon both times,in the icu both times, another guy had the bad headaches, sore muscel/joints and shakes so bad we thought he wouldn't make it

no. i just had the test done as a matter of practice when i got her shots and the heartworm test. to be honest, i am not sure why i had the test done. i suppose they asked and i said ok. anyway, they called and said she tested positive for it. she was vaccinated before. can't remember when. i didn't bother to tell my wife. she is a freak about ticks and our kids and would be really pissed if she knew my dog had been carrying a lymes infected tick anywhere withing 20 miles of my house.

esp,you got lucky, one of the 5%... I do know it takes 36 to 48hrs for the infected tick to transmitte once attached, but these little deer ticks can be tough to find, most often I find a couple attached around the eyes or jawels of my pup even tho I take care to keep him outof the tall grassey area come spring,my boy got lyme in the fall when they come back out in mid september thru oct until the 1st hard freeze inthe area I hunt, high ground with scatterred scrub cedar tree's which the ticks seem to love, note my avatar.
