As an educator and someone who paid a bunch of money for a degree, I F&€$@ing hate college. It's a giant %#£!$& scam. I go out of my way at my job to un-brainwash the people I teach.

Good man Bed Wetter, I have relatives who did the same. I say did, because after 41 years the closest relative hung it up.

I agree college is a rip off. The "rounded education" philosophy is a rip off tool. People will never use 50% of their education. There are classes and professors that would never have a student if not forced to take the crap class.

If I want to feel good about giving money I do it at church. Taxes make me feel bad, not for the expense as much as what the gov does with the money. Like pay for the murder of a child because some low life can't keep her knees together, and a kid would cut into her booze and drug fund.

Yoby, yes. I know a meatball doing that right now. Stupid. It has to be gutted completely. I keep wondering why he didn't just build anew actual house. But, I'm stupid.

Oh my, we're a little abrasive this morning.

Years ago, a young man bound for college made a loan and the money went through his checking account. The responsibility was on him/her to purchase books and not spend foolishly. But it did happen and lessons were learned.

Today that responsibility is no longer required because the money is transferred directly from the lending institution (Bank of ND/fafsa/fedloan/etc.) to the school. The schools have access to grab as much money as they can. For instance, if a kid signs up campus dorm housing it is a contract. $2000 per semester. If the kid can't get along with his roommate and gives notice by Thanksgiving he is moving out Dec. 31 they will say OK. They have time to fill it. They fill it but still ding the kid on the start of the second semester. (He/she signed a contract for one year) Now they are charging two kids. One is living in the dorm, one is not. Double dipping. They have access to the kids account and take the money because the banker doesn't know that the kid isn't living there. A license to steal.

Another bad school is the Arts Institute Minneapolis. Overpriced. $28k per year. I know a girl who said it was a joke and quit after 9 months. They said everything would be taken care of. The girl failed to notified the bank to not give them anymore money. They kept drawing money as if she was in school. Even for apartment rental and $100 per month for damages to the apartment.

The trouble is these kids don't see the money being drained directly from their own bank account by the schools. Like Mark Twain said, "I never let my schooling get in the way of my education."

Colleges are like any other business. They will take advantage of this system. Is it any wonder these kids are being crushed with insurmountable college debts?

Oh my goodness the next word. Kind of sick we get so worked up. Many plant species used that word. Perhaps they have changed them all. The word is Greek meaning black. I always got a kick out of the pc crowd saying they want to be called black. It was the same thing in a different language. Then it changed to African American. I'm not sure which term is pc now. When I meet one I just call them Frank, or Joe, or whatever their name is. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black

I had to share this paragraph that I had to read in a financial class I'm taking at NDSU. I'm really happy to pay them tuition so I could learn this. I'll leave it for the group to weigh in on.

"Surprisingly, your brain may like paying taxes!Recent research suggests that people can feel good about paying taxes that improve others’ well-being.While most people would prefer to keep their money rather than pay taxes, paying taxes still is not the same thing as throwing the money away.Taxes can be viewed, even if only subconsciously, as a social good. And people don’t like inequality and seek to preserve a positive self-image, which means that most are unlikely to cheat on their taxes.Interestingly, there is evidence that many people work harder when they realize that they will be taxed. In a recent experiment, participants worked harder when paid $100 and there was a $10 tax than when they were paid $90 with no taxes due"

The brain does work in mysterious ways and this theory certainly qualifies as strange in my book. I have a hard time thinking that people like paying taxes or that someone works harder knowing that they are going to pay taxes. In my mind people cheat on their taxes because they think they have already paid enough.

I worked at a job most of my life where my salary was paid by taxes collected from others. Of course over all those years I also paid my share of taxes. It would be easier for me to accept a statement such as "people don't mind paying a fair tax when they know the taxes are being used wisely or for a common good."

For example, most of us realize that we expect some things to be paid for by either local, state, or national entities. Paying for those things require some sort of tax collection to pay the bill. For example: We drive on roads and expect them to be maintained, we expect police protection and understand the need to pay for those services. I was a teacher and people expect an education for children and realize there are expenses involved. The problem arises when we think our hard-earned money is being used in a wasteful manner.

Now is where most of the tax arguments start. What is wasteful spending? Different for everyone. Some would prefer to drive on dirt or gravel roads while others want pavement. Some think a teacher such as myself was overpaid, after all "They only work 9 months a year." I caused a pretty good argument one time when a farmer told me that and I reminded him of his neighbor who farmed the same amount of land and held another full time job to fill his spare time.

Taxes are a necessary evil. The key is to make sure the taxes are fair to all and I'm not sure how to define fair as there are always going to differences on what is necessary and what is a waste.
