I have no problem with people getting everything back that they pay in, good for them. Its the above and beyond what they pay in, that gets me upset.

don't think the same rules apply to folks who pay in 32k/year. your 32k/year is providing for the extra $ back that the "less fortunate" receive. sorry.

When I file my tax returns there isn't much I can do, as a single person, from paying "IN" even more. Each year I still write a check for approx. $1,000 to the feds. I've already claimed S-0 on my W4 and I already have another $100/mo extra taken out to help pad the end-of-year burden. I use the long form and write off as much as legally possible (e.g. energy savings, mortgage interest, property taxes, charitable donations, volunteer expenses, etc.) and yet I can't seem to break even at $0 taxable.

Seems the only way to get there is to dip the wick and get some chic pregnant... which then becomes a 30yr financial burden! ;:;rant

when i first started dating my now wife, she was a single mom, working part time and going to school full time. she had me doing her taxes. the first time i did them, i was like "WTF?" i had to re check my work 3 times to make sure i wasn't inputting the numbers wrong because i couldn't figure out how she was getting more back then she paid in. LOTS MORE. i think it was something like paid in $1500 and getting $4000 or more back... could've been 6k back. but, i don't want to exaggerate when its not needed and i honestly can't remember. but, i definitely remember that feeling of "how the hell is this possible?"

I was also in this same situation. I had my "WTF" moment also.
