I think if the site had politics on the front page, it would attrach persons that only have politics on their agenda and want a 24/7 argument to show how smart they are. I like discussing politics but in a more toned down manner than some of the rabble rousers that are on constant repeat and cut & paste fanatics. Maybe there should be a "hot button" to hover over and see what is shaking in the politic section. I forget it is there and should look into it more. I tend to be more of a listener when the subject is politics cause I sure don't know how to fix this mess.

There are only so many top spots for the side bar. For every political thread on the side bar, that kicks another out. I don't see what is so hard to understand about that?!! Its not that you have to click on it, but eventually that is all there will be. I respect V's decision and like not having the political threads showing up there. I, and others, may miss a thread if we don't see it on the side bar. I don't often check all the different topic threads, and if someone doesn't put it under General, I could miss it, ESPECIALLY IF ITS FULL OF POLITICAL CRAP! Why is that so hard for some to understand?????

So what is so hard about going to the political section to search for the threads anyway!???

So what if the side bar is full of threads about the Vikings, Twins, sucking, the Packers winning, UND and NDSU for the umpteenth time, make believe football and golf? I may miss a thread about pickling muskies.

It's not that people don't GAF, but there are other sites for that type of topic. If NDA want's to be the best website for fishing it needs to concentrate on fishing. I don't go to Food Network for fishing info nor MuskieFirst for walleye strategies. I don't come to NDA to have political topics fill up the front page unless it would be very outdoor specific.

The problem with political talk (or religious talk), is that it is nothing but arguing and bickering, and soon it turns into personal attacks. Like I said before, nobody is changing anyone's mind or opinion on these subjects anyway.

Just because you do not wish to hear others points of view and weigh them and possibly change your mind, does not mean that someone simply reading without taking a side will not.

So far the political discussions on here have been a refreshing change from other sites. No one is calling anyone a tea bagger , libiitard, or accusing anyone of being "greedy" or the other stupid childish crap that was the standard you mention. Calling someone a "liberal" is no more a personal attack than being called a conservative.

I am curious though if this site is supposed to concentrate on fishing, why do we have threads about golf? Fantasy football, ect.....

The point here is if you wish to keep this site from going the way of FBO and Nodak, have a little tolerance for what others like to talk about besides just what YOU may think is proper.

Really ? I've never felt that anyone's opinion or advice on any topic, Political or not was a way for them to show how smart they are, I'm just happy some people that take the time to read up on a subject will share what they learned and links to more information.

There is a political forum on this website. I don't visit it. You can talk politics all day long in there if you choose.

I think Vollmer and the founding members were pretty clear when he started this website and asked if that should show up in the "Recent Activity" sidebar.

I'm glad as hell that this site keeps it's political crap off the main thread. It's all the same few people who did nothing but bully and bitch on Fishingbuddy now doing it here. No reason to have all your threads being these same few people who act all perfect and conservative when you know damn well that if they had a kid with disabilities, lost their job, had a major health issue that broke them, or any of those types of things happen they'd be the first ones in line for government help and bitching when they didn't get enough of what they wanted. You're all just one incident away from being one of those people who want everything for nothing.

As said above, this thread can go into that political garbage land so it doesn't clutter up real information too.

Like I have said, have no problem with the politics being in a forum as on here, it has allowed those that wish the opportunity to discuss politics without all the whining from those that could not help themselves from clicking on the threads on those other sites.

But I would like gonefshn to provide an example of the "bullying" he claims is going on here on NA. This was a complaint often bantered about over on FBO during the blow up by a small group. It was what caused Toby to ban members and ultimately kill that site.

Besides, I thought the negative rep system was supposed to be able to deal with any of that sort of thing?

Oh well, those of us that wish to converse about issues that govern us can go to the forum, you guys can talk about make believe football and golf in between threads about hunting and fishing.

Why turn this site into FBO 2.0?

Easy answer, FBO was fun and generated a ton of page views in its prime. It worked and worked well for years. People enjoyed the conversations and the camaraderie there. They tried to change it and everyone left. Why not recreate what people enjoyed and worked, while the audience is still here, instead of trying to be something different, which may not work? It sounds to be like NDA is trying to be what FBO tried to turn into (minus the heavy handed moderation) instead of taking the opportunity they have to BE WHAT FBO WAS, that kept people there for many years...

Personally if this site is just fishing/hunting, I might check it daily, but if more is allowed, I would probably be more involved. Outdoors related information is great, but there is only so much entertainment value there. Allowing political discussions would keep people involved and active more than they are now. Sure there are places available that are dedicated to discussing politics, or whatever else, but there are also much larger communities around dedicated to discussing outdoors topics too. This is kind of a niche market and restricting people by removing certain topics from peoples view, IMO, will only hurt this site down the road.
