Letting players go or trading them because you don't want to pay what they are worth in the marketplace hasn't been a good long term winning strategy.

Reality is, if Sano and Buxton would have performed like they did last year and if Ervin Santana would have been healthy, the Twins would easily be in contention and this wouldn't have all happened. The guys they traded are all average big leaguers with the exception of Dozier and maybe Escobar. I hate to see him leave but Dozier is 31 and isn't having a very good year, so it's unlikely he'll be a big loss to the team going forward. It is frustrating to always start over with prospects who most likely won't pan out but that's pretty much what every team has to do in MLB other than NY, LA, and BOS.

If Rosario, Buxton, Sano, Polanco, Berrios develop like they should this team will be fine. But that's a big question mark at this point.

21 blown saves this year..........and counting. One decent reliever would cut that number in half and Twins would be competing for first in the division.

I would love to hear what the organizations front office has mind in creating “the perfect team.” I’ve become disinterested in twins baseball over the last couple seasons. I’m officially a bandwagon twins fan. Show me the championships. Jimmy Pohlad can get bent. Maybe it’s time to take on a new favorite team

The chatter about dozier from the twinkee's is dozier will become a free agent at season end, they say they will re-sign him come spring if he stay's healthy, this season is shot so they gambled to get some new young blood,3 from the minor's so we'll see how it plays out.

Not a baseball fan so really don't give a shit unless they make the series.

Woah, woah, woah...hold on just a minute. I was under the impression that the Twins weren't going to lose any more because they got a new stadium. You're telling me that's not the case???

Dozier leaves and puts out 4 RBI last night. Sounds about typical for a MN sports trade. I suspect he will will the batting title next year.

I have been a bandwagon fan since Morneau left. Waste of time.

I don't think anybody thought the Twins were going to start spending like the Yankees after Target Field was built, but yes I know that was a selling point of the stadium. I did a little research and the Twins' payroll in 2009 was $67M (last year in Metrodome), $98M in 2010 and $113M in 2011 (first year of Mauer's big contract). The Twins were in a tough spot with the Mauer contract since TF was being built, Mauer had a couple huge years, he was from MN - people would have burned down the place if they'd let him walk. '10 & '11 are the only years they've been above average in terms of payroll. The Twins are very similar in payroll to Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Houston, Colorado, etc. All teams (many with fairly new stadiums) that contend for a couple years and then have to rebuild. That's basically the way baseball is structured now unless you're one of the big 4 or 5. Heck the Angels and Mets have had large payrolls for many years and have very little to show for it. By the time players hit free agency they're usually 28 or so and proven guys are incredibly expensive (especially pitchers) and often start to regress shortly after that. I doubt we'll see another 8 year contract like Mauer's - teams have wised up to that with the steroid era over.
Point is, you have to build from within. I wouldn't say they've been the best-run team but they've probably been on par with 20 teams in the last 15 years. The Twins' haven't been able to develop starting pitching very well and some of their stud prospects haven't turned in to what we had hoped.
