Anyone out much during the warm fall we’ve had? Between low water and life it sure seems like there are less folks out. Both Sak and Oahe have been pretty quiet. Hoping to make a good trip somewhere late this month. Fish till December if possible.

It’s tough right now. The amount of bait we saw last Saturday was wild. Even snagged a shad they were so thick. If we don’t get the water cooling down fast enough it’s going to be just like last fall and winter. bad

Last fall there it was nuts with the amount of bait. My graph had times when it was reading the solid bait below as bottom. Gotta be growing some big fish but how do you get them to bite?

shad. This is a article about it. its wild to think how many times a summer the shad spawn once it hits 55 degrees they are spawning multiple times

https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/science-of-shad-winterkill/153824

The smelt like the water cold thats why they go south to the deep water in summer.
Yes, familiar with that. Last year I figured the deep deep bait was smelt and the rest Shad. This reminds me of the late 2000’s, great boom time June fishing but the rest of the year sucked when the Shad got thick. Same thing happens in the W SD reservoirs each year. Blessing and curse.

I get what you were asking my bad. It was mostly all shad we were seeing didnt see much at all for bait down deep.

Was out yesterday south of new town casino. Caught nice fish. Limited out in 4.5 hours (10). Biggest was 23 which we put back. Talked to a guy at ramp that was fishing by us and he three back a 26 and 27. It’s slow but nice fish.

Curious on depth? Heading that way next week if weather allows.

We put in at new town marina but I think it’s closing in next few days. My kid said the casino ramp is sketchy. Not from depth of water but from just the condition of ramp. We didnt drop a line till like 10:30. Started pitching shiver minnows and I banged a couple within half hour. Throwing them to shore and snapping em back to boat. Caught those fish in less than 8’. Then I caught a dandy smally that was up in like 2’. Thing was like 4lbs. We didn’t drop that till 12:30 then trolled cranks on main shoreline. Kept boat in about 28’ and ran cranks at 25’. Fish are scattered at all depths but there were lots of species in there. Late afternoon it clouded over a wind picked up just a little and it had gotten slow. We needed two more so moved up to 12’ and wasn’t long we had em. In deep water purple demon reef runners and silver/blue reefs caught em and more shall we caught them on deep little rippers in purple/orange with dots. Always had a flicker minnow on also but it caught zero.
