Pretty tuff for me right now just heard a tragedy that extremely effected me up on winnepeg my son and four buddies were driving out on the lake and the back tire of the pickup went through and as they were walking back to shore to get help he fell through and had the auger in his hands It took him to the bottom and he couldn't get back out I'm goin thru a really tough time rite now terrible to hear something like this shit I lost two to the sport of ice fishing now

Ya, just got a call, that no father ever wants to get havin a tough time rite now

- - - Updated - - -

Turns out one of his buddies is hospitalized right now for goin in after him, feel sorry for him also

There's no news to be found regarding any ice fishermen going through Lake Winnipeg, nor news of deaths or hospitalizations of any ice fishermen on/near Winnipeg either.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Lunkerdouche is Toby-trollin' via usernames "Hook-in-eyes" and "Streifel".

I also did some searching but turned up nothing as I found it odd to keep playing on interwebs after such a tragedy. I know I would not be if it was my son but I gave bennifit of the doubt. It seems odd to me to.

I am not entirely sure what is going on here. I'll post the facts as I have them. LunkerSlayer and Streifel do not have matching IP's. This does not 100% mean that they are not the same person, but it makes it unlikely.

I generally give the benefit of the doubt on things like this. Someone falling through the ice may not show up on a google search. Maybe it didn't happen. Maybe it did. People grieve in their own way. I'm not going to assume what one would do in this type of situation. Either way, this thread has gotten out of hand.

IF you had a friend fall through, I apologize for the group.

Let's get this thread back on track...

Like Dean, I also practice falling through the ice with my kids, just like I practice drawing my sidearm, performing CPR, etc. If there's enough runoff in spring, there's an old tractor in the slough that gets flooded and we use it to practice escaping from a submerged vehicle. Think what you want hornhunter but if you had kids of your own you'd understand.

Do you have them start fires with Flint and steel. That is a valuable skill that is tough to implement in field conditions

It's probably too wet under the ice to get a fire started, plus, who can hold their breath that long other than KDM when he's reading ATV reviews.

I was more think while escaping the flooded tractor tearing a piece of the stuffing out of the tractor seat and starting that on fire once the escape is complete. Hypothermia could then be thwarted.

Well back to real people doing real dumb things apparently my budy thought it was a good idea to drive his Humvee across a pond through willows no less! Goofy bastard made it to where he was going with an additional 2,000 pounds of cargo no less but the return Journey was apparently too much for the ice! Stupid MN people I tell you good thing it was a Humvee so they could just drive it out. Mind you they went forwards not backwards!:;:imwithstupid

This whole multi-personality account disorder is making my head hurt. I guess that's the answer when you're constantly burning bridges and making enemies.

i am/was in the same boat. Hard to believe you'd lose your buddy and dog a few years back and now your son but yet still comment on several posts but everybody reacts differently. I'd be in a vehicle headed there to support my younger son. Something smells fishy but regardless I will send my condolences...we need some good ice so everybody can get out fishing and not stir the pot here.

Apparently the Iip on the shore was the only tricky part had to winch the back end into the air so it could hop over the 12 inch lip.

It was the post he made literally two minutes after saying his son died where he said he was taking his ice castle out today that was the give away for me. Not to mention that he then started a topic about reports on fishing creek shortly after!
