long story short, friend of mine broke his vex on our trip to lake Winnipeg this weekend and was fortunate to have a very nice guy from Minot overhear our situation while we were trying to find parts and let him use his spare for the next day. Well this got me thinking that I should have a spare for if mine broke on a big trip or for a friend or my kids to use. I have an FL18 now that is probably 10+ years old and there is not a damn thing wrong with it. I would be lost without my flasher. Well scheels has the fl28 pro pack on sale for $570 and the fl18 genz box for $370. the fl28 sure looks cool but is it worth the extra $200? It does seem like the fl28 is a little quieter. any other advantages?

Fishing outside with the 28 is where I really see it leaves the 18 in the dust IMO. Stand a ways back/different angles, ect and you'll see the 28 even in the sun. I can't say what the 22's are like.

another thing about the 28 vs the 18 is the interference problems. I was up on DL and rented a hard house out of Woodland and we were fishing deep and had a lot of interference on my 18 and a friend had a lowrance and couldn't even fish with it first day, next couple days we rented 28's from the resort and had no interference at all fishing them both out of the same house or the other units around us like we did the first day. 20 different interference channels to try to get rid of what you do get. That in itself has me thinking hard of upgrading from my 18 to a 28

When fishing with my buddy and his nefew this weekend he had his 28 and his nefew had a 18 of another guys. He started saying that after running his 28 for the last couple years he can't go back to an 18, he is actually thinking about getting a spare 28 now

i bought the 28 because of the interference settings once you've experienced this you know what i'm talking about. Vex is the ice fishing unit. period. the weed mode is very good for finding fish and lure in weeds and trees.

Had an 8 for 15yrs or so and went to the 28 2 years ago, very quiet, very sharp, very crisp target id, and like mentioned very nice and usable in bright conditions, you can dim for night usage to ease eye strain

ps. You can even fish near a radioactive marcum

Sawyer,
The different color pallettes are nice. Seriously though I like everything about them other than the pro ducer and that they get glitchy once in a while and need a restart. Other than that, they are great. They definitely take the abuse as well as any of the other models. The target separation is awesome. The auto depth is really nice.

One other thing they need to change on it though is out the battery indicator in a percentage instead of volts. I can't put a timeline to the voltage drain.

I have a 28 that is a little over a year old. I went from an 8 and absolutely love it. The auto depth/range is awesome. The color palettes are really cool to use as well. Like others have stated, the interference rejection settings are huge. I was in a shack up on LOW last year and was able to have a completely clear screen while the other 6 guys were all fighting with each other.

One note on the awesome customer service from Vexilar. I had a head unit that would cause the screen to freeze at least once per trip. Kind of a pain but not a big deal as if you just turn it off and on the issue would go away. I saw on their website that they had a run of 28s last year that had this glitch. Just had to send them in or bring them to the headquarters and they would do the software update and away you go. Well beings I only live 30 mins from the headquarters I ran it down last week. They took it in back and came out a couple minutes later with a brand new unit. The boss wanted mine for testing and just updated me to the 2016 model. Awesome customer service that created a lifelong customer.
