Here's a related thought: k-12 students already get a portion of their meals paid for from the government. At our school an adult meal costs something like 4.50 a lunch. That's what we pay as a teacher. Damn good price to eat. Student prices are less than that. 2.50 - 3.50? I don't recall the exact price. Should we increase it to 4.50 like the adults? How dare THOSE kids get something given to them!!!??? Unfair!
For the 85th time, no one is arguing to change the current system......... are you a teacher? In a public school? Just curious......

Yes. Have been for 24 years. It's easy to have a perspective when all you need to worry about is you and yours. Your views change as you see and hear about the lives of some of these kids. Some don't have consistent homes or meals. Some are foster care. Some are working 40 hours a week on top of school so they can earn money for their family and younger siblings. Some miss days because they have to care for the younger siblings.

When I started my career, I knew MY experiences. That's it. It was easy to judge and have the "answer" for everything. I would say those answers are different now.

What is your occupation? Just curious as well.

And most kids don't have the issues you describe, and a free breakfast and lunch wont solve any of the problems you listed. I am not judging, I am just trying to understand the "issue" and how hundreds of millions of tax dollars is going to fix it.
And I am an electrician, spend time on the road with odd hours.

There's always an expert out there. I like hearing from people who have all the answers for schools, especially those who have no idea what it's like working in one.

I sure as hell wouldn't have any idea how any new electrical laws or codes should be written. Not the path I chose.

Not saying you are doing that....just as an example.

Just curious Yak. Does AI do your teaching and lessons? Do taxpayers pay you to spend your day posting on forums instead of teaching? Asking for a few friends.

Yak,
I don't claim to be an expert, but when progressive people and out of state progressive groups ask for hundreds of millions of taxpayer money I tend to at least investigate and try to understand the need and ask. So far, I am not convinced there is a problem that will be solved from hundreds of millions of tax dollars every 2 years. Which will be mandated as its a constitutional change.
Again, we can disagree, your argument tends to try and persuade from emotions, everyone has had a tough life at some point, I think we have gone soft as a people and country, and the tilt to socialism continues unchecked. So we can agree to disagree, and vote accordingly.

Everyone, please get out and exercise your God given right to vote and make yourself heard!

No, I do not use AI.

And there it is...fine. I will quit visiting this website. Since you need to get all nitpicky about my time and your money.

This site and everyone on it sucks.

So North Dakota farmers want to be known for "feeding the world" but they don't want their tax money going to feeding their own citizens?

But they go tax free on the buildings they put up don't they?

Lot of big houses and building going up isn't there? How about ranchers? Do they get tax cuts on buildings?
Yes farmers and ranchers don’t pay property taxes on their residents if they’re living on the farm.

Hey - how are out of state progressive groups getting ND tax dollars? (not being a jerk, just unaware)

Only if you put it in the constitution, state law can be changed pretty easy
I might be a little slow here but tell me what measure one does.

Once one votes to limit their own voting power that power is gone forever.

We need less government control not more.

So let’s say meals are $3.50 now. The measure provides a set increase to inflation. What’s gonna happen in three years when the meals go to $6 a piece because you can bet your sweet ass it will. Then we’re in a pickle because that’s far and above inflation rate. That’s flat ass gouging. When the general public’s groceries don’t go up proportionally how are going to claim inflation. What’s the measure at the antidote is for that then?

school meals have never followed inflation - not even close - otherwise it would be at least $15/meal right now.
