Serious question: I drive by that place pretty frequently and there are never more than a dozen vehicles in the lot. Does anyone actually go to Goose Peak any more??? I've been in there a few times over the years, but never purchase anything unless it's clearanced or on sale since their prices are so high.

Just curious, as I had that place pegged to close years ago and for some reason it's still open.

Also, I worked at Gander in high school back in the early oughts, and it holds a special, deep-seeded hatred in my heart.

Yeah I've been thinking this exact thing for a couple years now. Then they went and remodeled the whole store!! Drive by Gander on a Saturday and they'll be some cars, drive by Scheel's on the other hand you can barely find a parking spot.....it's crayz they're still open

Scheels is stupid busy all the time. I almost wish GM was at least somewhat competitive so I had another place to buy stuff. But Scheels always outdoes them on price and supply. It's ridiculous.

I used to give them business because it was the only bait store on the south side of town. Once they got rid of the bait store, I very rarely go there.

The customer service has always been terrible. I've literally had guys walk away to keep from answering a question. Went there on my lunch break once to look at boots and after waiting 15 minutes for someone to help me I had to go to the counter to ask for someone to get my size to try on. I do in every once and a while to see if they have something I found online that Scheels didn't carry. It's always like a ghost town.

When big Ed was back in the fishing department, GM was worth visiting. He knew more about the ins and outs of the Red River than just about anyone. But when he died and they quit selling bait, there was no reason to go there any more.

Yup! I always bought bait there just because Eddy was usually working and was a fountain of knowledge. Why in the hell they don't even sell bait anymore is beyond me.

This was the only reason I ever went there. That guy knew his shit. I stop in there almost everytime im in Fargo. But only cause I live 2 hours away and it another sporting goods store to visit. On occasion I will buy something but not often. I used to get some of my fishing rods there but when they got rid of there life time replacement I quit.

Yup, their customer service still sucks, and their gunsmith is still overly crabby.... in case you were wondering

We are truly spoiled with scheels customer service. It makes others look terrible. You buy a gun from scheels and are not 100% happy, they give you different one with little questions asked. You break a rod, new one. A reel you're not happy about, new one on the spot.

That smith is good people. He likes to chat and he's very interesting to listen too. You let him talk for awhile and he'll make quick work if you've got a small job. I like Outdoorsman but don't find myself in there often.

And I agree, Fargo Scheels has great customer service when you can find a guy who's not already 3 customers deep. Amazed that an overpriced brick and mortar store can stay as busy as Scheels. It's the inventory and the customer service.

The value of the real estate that gander mountain sits upon is a golden nugget. That has to be the main factor in that ghost town of a store staying open.

Went to scheels to get 3 1/2" 00 buck shot. Guy told me they don't make such a thing. Went to gander and they had 3 different brands of it. Sometimes scheels salesmen are dumb

I hear that. Last time I bought buckshot at scheels, I was questioned at to what my intent of use was with buckshot. I replied quite honestly and was given the stern grandmother look.

To me, Scheels is a necessary evil. They usually have the best variety and stock or products, so get my business.

I guess the only place that hasn't been mentioned yet is Fleet Farm. They honestly kind of suck for hunting gear, but have a good selection of ammo at pretty decent prices. In fact, I think a lot of their duck and phez loads are on sale right now.

Also, they have a killer ice fishing selection. I actually prefer going to FF for my fishing stuff, come to think of it.
