Does anyone have a favorite everbearing strawberry plant that does well this far north ? Ours produced big tasty fruit for 4-5 years but they have gone down hill They are quite a few years old and I don't know what variety they are. Time for a new batch .

I'd say if you like the variety you have, all you need to do to revive the plot is to abuse the hell out of it. Basically, a strawberry plant loses vigor with age, even though they are perennials. To combat plant fatigue, go in and rip out half of your strawberry plants every year to establish a sort of continued renewal of the plot.

BTW, I've never had success with everbearing when it comes to size. I get a lot of berries about the size of my thumbnail. I left that plot to die this year and will be reconsidering what I want to do about fresh strawberries. I absolutely dislike most store-bought strawberries, agave sweetener helps...but still.

It's been a cool and cloudy spring here and plenty of rain The crops and garden have a good start but slow growing, they need some warm sunny days .

I sprinkle crushed Viagra on mine. They perk right up, but only for about 4 hours at a time.

The best luck I have is with drip line and keep the ground wet until they come up. If the soil is lumpy I lay the seed on top and then use a sifter to put 1/4 inch of fine soil over them.

I think it’s weather related. I have great luck where they are planted. I level the soil
With a cedar board. Then create rows between cedar boards about one inch apart. I dust them with fine soil. Water lightly. But this year nothing. Fresh seeds.

I planted peas in the garden this year and I believe the sparrows are eating the plants.
Anyone else have this problem?
If so, what do you use as a deterrent? (other then bird netting and an air rifle)

The wife waters the hell out of the carrots then covers the row with 2x6 boards for a week. Thirty foot row and they are all up.
